I have heard that longer American style bathing suites are not the done thing on the French Mediterranean Coast and have also heard folks say bring a pair of shorts to double as trunks. Anybody have specifics suggestions swim wear suggestions?

That works. I have a pair of nylon, black shorts with zipper pockets, built in belt, that doubles as pair of walking shorts or a swim suit. But a European style speedo doesn't take up much space either. Only the women worry about been fashionable on the beach.
