Okay, so this is not my first time travelling, but it's my first time going to a country where I personally know nothing about. Anyone have ideas on how to go about it, or what I'll need?
I mean, apart from my passport of course. I checked the listed countries and couldn't find Russia on the list so I'm in a twist here. help, anyone?

Do you mean the "listed countries" on this website? There are other sources of information besides this forum. It took me two seconds with my friend Google, to bring up pages of links about what to pack for St. Petersburg.
Are you traveling on a tour, and if so, what does your tour organizer recommend that you pack? If it's a tour, what are the size/number/weight limits for luggage for your tour?
When are you traveling? How long is the trip? What activities are on the itinerary? Will you be only in St. Petersburg? Will you be handling all your own luggage during your trip?
I believe you will need to apply for a visa.
And if I'm not mistaken you need a confirmed hotel reservation to get a visa.
It's all best done through an experienced travel agent.
This is the Packing topic so I assumed the OP was asking about packing and responded accordingly.
There is a Russia topic on this forum for more general travel discussions.
When you write that your knowledge is lacking , do you mean the nuts and bolts of a specific place , or what to see and experience ? If the latter , and you are not averse to reading , these two fine books will give you a very good grounding - https://www.amazon.com/Nicholas-Alexandra-Robert-Massie-2000-02-01/dp/B01JXT84CY/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1RNOP67N0S1TK&keywords=nicholas+and+alexandra&qid=1560702380&s=gateway&sprefix=nicholas+and%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-5 and this - https://www.amazon.com/Land-Firebird-Beauty-Old-Russia/dp/096441841X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1QXUFHYS0ZDCW&keywords=the+land+of+the+firebird&qid=1560702451&s=gateway&sprefix=the+land+of+the+%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-1 The two authors were formerly married
Best way to see St. Petersburg is coming off a cruise ship. No very expensive Visa is required if you're on a guided tour with a government approved tour agency for two days. Excellent tour guides and small van transportation gets you into the most popular attractions before the big buses get there.

We visited St Petersburg on a Holland America Baltic Sea cruise and did exactly this. Rather than booking our St Petersburg tour through the cruise line we used a company called SPB Tours. They did an excellent job and I would highly recommend them. They used comfortable vans that held about 20 people. Their guides were excellent. They have several different tour options.
Thanks a lot guys. I wasn't online for a while. We're rounding up in school. So i asked around and my bff said she'd ask her guy and find out for me, which she did. he sent me a link, #wouldpostsomeothertime. Turns out that some companies kinda handle this kind of stuff. I think it's like a tour company, touring company, cant say which one. Any way, they help with stuff like this and they said there are trying to get some other people to join. The trip is not until next month, so i think i can be ready by then.
right, so the name of the company is Anastasia travels. i just went to my browsing history and there they were. i think they're legit. anyone used them before?
also, if anyone is going from Canada, just say Hi! we could probably meet up and hang out. waiting for replies...
don't leave me hanging ;)
You have posted your questions here in a topic that is all about packing.
You stand a better chance of having your questions about St. Petersburg answered, if you post them in the discussion topic for Russia, here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/russia
Okay... thanks
