Ryan Air and Ravenna Day Pack

Hi, travellers,

Seeking someone with experience with Ryan Air. We are traveling Barcelona to Rome on Ryan Air with Priority boarding, giving us one 10 kg bag measuring 55 cm by 40 cm by 20 cm. Our RS Ravenna bags fit within that size. We are also entitled to a personal item that must fit under the seat. We're planning to take our Ravenna backpacks as our personal items, and while they are a little wider in one direction when laid flat, they can be squeezed into a 35 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm space if minimally packed. If there is a problem, we're prepared to either rearrange into a totally shapeless bag and pop our empty backpacks into the roller bags.

Has anyone had experience with the Ravenna bags on Ryan Air?

Thanks - Polly

Not with a Ravenna bag but other similar. As long as you can fit it in the checker it will be fine you can swueeze it in if you have to but it will fit.

Will be flying Ryan Air with Priority boarding from Frankfurt to Porto on Friday with my Deuter 35+10 ACT backpack. It should certainly fit in their measuring cube as only have about 6kg in it and it is also 55cm tall.

I will let you know how it goes.

Just got back from the 11-day Sicily tour and took RyanAir from Rome to Palermo and returned to Rome from Catania. Never had a bit of problem with my Ravenna day pack and I had it stuffed with my fleece sweater, down vest, and lightweight rain jacket plus camera, lens, etc. It was FULL and RyanAir gave me zero grief. I did pay take the Priority option when booking which gave me a checked bag plus the large carryon. Actually felt I had more room on board for my stuff because the seats used in the planes are very lightweight and thin, keeping with the short flight times and allowing more room under the seat for your bag, though I had no problem using the overheads. More like a plastic waiting room chair than the bulkier full size airline seats.

Thanks, Mike G. This is good information. Just to clarify, you checked a large bag and put your day pack in the overhead compartment, right? Would the Ravenna pack have fit under the seats? And if the seats are that hard, it's good our flight is less than 2 hours!

A Ravenna day pack should fit easily under the seat even if fully loaded. Mine is my preferred “personal item”, and it’s never been a problem, though I’ve never taken it on a commuter aircraft, so the seats might be different. But for a 737 or A320 on up, it’s always fit.

Reporting back:
Ryan Air was a piece of cake. We had Priority Boarding so could take two bags aboard. Though we didn't have to do so, we checked and the Ravenna bags and backpacks all fit the measuring rack easily. Even better, they fit easily in the overhead compartment and under the seat. I stressed over a non-issue.
