This is kind of weird modern art, but fun. Not exactly influencing anyone. My tray would have to contain many tiny packets of peanut M&M’s. Need to put some bright colored stuff in 3-1-1 bag. My tray would definitely fall into the budget category.

I’m sorry, if I meet one of these brats in the security line it’s not going to be pretty. we try hard not to interfere with anyone, really? If you’re trying hard not to interfere with anyone you put your stuff on the tray and it goes to security you don’t rearrange so you can take you photo. The line about how you take it off to the side and rearrange it. I’m not sure what airports this dingbats going through, but at most airports there’s no place to take it off to the side and arrange your stuff for photos. it’s a security line, not your personal photo studio

But I do see a positive, they laid all their stuff out artistically so that the passengers on the other side of the scanner, see the goodies and can help themselves. What a stupid idea .

Mine definitely would not have a pair of pink heels! Size 11 Saucony sneaks just wouldn’t be as stylish.

Carol.
I don’t think you can use the word dingbat here. Someone could misconstrue that.

I agree with you Carol that this could be an example of over the top self- importance. I posted this with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. When I read the article, it just made me think of the items that I have bought (mostly bc of reading recommendations on this forum!) and how my curated bin would be a tribute to the RS forum members who share great products :)
The young ones doing this would definitely get a “get off my lawn” kind of look from me, especially if they were impeding others.

If you look at the photos - they seem dated. Small digital camera, no cell phone, issued boarding pass.
I have no problem with the dingbat word. Must be a generational thing and far more polite than commonly used words today. I think the key here is interference. If someone gets a tray before getting in line and does this - fine. Security lines are no place for this.

This digital posting stuff is so foreign to me. Another place where I see it and just roll my eyes is at the gym. Some of these kids will sit there on the machines (usually one that I am heading towards) and take umpteen pics of themselves posing. I guess they go and post it on the social media accounts, but unfortunately they are unaware (I’ll give them benefit of the doubt that they are unaware rather than thinking they just don’t care) there are people who want to get in and get out and have to stay longer bc they are creating their content. Oh well…patience is a virtue!

The next time you go to the airport, look at your security area and tell me where the influencer is going to do this before they put the tray on the scanner. There’s really not space unless they’re blocking somebody somewhere because you know they’re important. now they could do it on the other end if they took it all the way to where you sit down, put your shoes on, but having seen influencers in action, they don’t really normally care.

The internet bombed on me. I went back and looked at the article a second time. Some of these folks are buying TSA type trays and doing this at home. Others are photoshopping the images. Some are doing this after passing through security. So, this is just a photo art project for fun.

Carol - expecting free things to be an “influencer” is absurd. There was always the concept of endorsements. But, the deals went to well known celebrities to boost sales. I guess nowadays - if someone is established on social media - that individual may get products and endorsement deals. There are a few successful this way. I think many try.

How about wingnut, knucklehead, bonehead, moron or ding-a-ling instead?

Harmless fun? Maybe. I don't know about all airports, but at the International terminal at YYC I've often had to wait for a bin to become available. I don't know if it's lack of staff getting the bins back to the front of the line, or slow screening by untrained staff, or perhaps both, and now possibly the dingbats/wingnuts/knuckleheads/boneheads/morons/ding-a-lings that can't help themselves on social media. It's probably just a trend though that will have a short shelf-life.

These people with shoes in their trays must not have TSA Pre ;) My TSA tray is so boring with only my small Baggallini purse and backpack in the tray. My husband’s tray however, after he unloads the contents of his pockets, looks like a junk drawer. He has been better about offloading pockets into a baggie and stuffing it in his backpack but his trays are still a bit of chaos.

Mona, we’ll just consider your hubby to be the Jackson Pollack of TSA tray imagery :)

@sun baked in Florida

Wanna be influencers are doing it for freebies. I actually know a woman who claims her job is being an “influencer.” So when she shows up at a hotel or restaurant, she lies about how many followers she has and talks about how she’s going to promote them on her social media site and if they don’t kiss her (insert word), give her free stuff, give her upgrades to etc. she trashes them. The smart ones actually check and realize she doesn’t have nearly the influence she wants them to believe and just tell her she can take her demands elsewhere. Since she quit her job to do this trash none of her old colleagues even speak to her. She’s constantly sending us messages to follow her on social media.

ALWAYS peanut M & M’s. Always.

The internet influencers concept is merely souls trying for fame.

I lived in Hollywood for 30 years. The concept of influencers bores me.

Carol,
For (insert word) - use a dingbat.
The M&M’s will add nice color and youthfulness to my TSA tray photo.
Forget my stinky, dirt stained shoes! No one wants to see or smell that! Need to be in a plastic bag or shoe sleeve.

Security quibble. I went to a ball game yesterday. Used my daughter’s small, clear stadium bag. Only contained a few items like keys, wallet, tissue, etc.. The gate security made me take certain items out of the bag and place them in the tray. This was after I just placed the bag in the tray and all items could be easily and quickly seen. What is the point of clear bags if security still makes you remove your cell phone and keys, etc.? I was trying to make things easy.

Sun Baked, from this ugh moment maybe you can start a new trend. Instead of curating a TSA aesthetic tray, how about doing it with a clear backpack? The clear backpack aesthetic trend! Who knew? Lol

Just out of curiosity , I looked more into this TSA tray curating thing. One article said there are 16.4 million mentions of this on tik tok. That’s crazy! One post I read said “the TSA is aware of this trend”. Haha It also quoted a TSA representative as saying as long as it’s not holding up any security progress, it shouldn’t be a problem. My interest is definitely piqued now; I am going to be on the lookout for anyone doing it next month at the airports if it doesn’t fizzle out by then. I may just wander over to one of these youngins and suggest they include peanut M and Ms. ;)

I've not seen this phenomenon. Guess these people don't have Precheck.
