I bought a RS Rolling Carry On. I use it on my business travel. The last two trips I checked in the bag on my return. When I picked up on the luggage carousel both times the main zipper was open roughly 6 inches unzippered. I know I zipped the two zippers together up at the top of the bag. Nothing fell out maybe since I use the packing cubes. Nothing was stolen either as I had nothing of value. The bag weighed about 22 lbs packed and it was a domestic flight from DC to Denver.
Has anyone seen this on their Rolling Carryon? Any suggestions other than buying the locks.
Thanks in advance.
I usually use a carabiner to clip the main zipper just in case it gets caught on something. I also use a baggage strap but that is mainly to make it stand out to me at baggage claim or on the RS tours where many tend to have the same bags.
I haven't had any problems with the zippers but my carryon's handle won't slide out all the way anymore, and it's not very old. Makes the bag worthless to me now.
I use a zip tie to secure zipper pulls together. You can buy a package of 100 at Harbor Freight for $2. TSA can easily cut them off if necessary. I put a nail clipper in an outside (unlocked) pocket or in my personal (carryon) bag for removal by me.
It is easy for a zipper pull to snag another zipper or bag when being handled. I use the plastic wire ties to secure all of my zipper just to prevent your problem.
I use diaper pins on any travel bag.
Ponygirl,
I've seen posts here that indicate that people have been successful in getting RS to replace bags. It's probably worth contacting them to see.
I've encountered open zippers on my Packs on past trips, which is exactly why I always secure them with a lock or something else during air travel.
Ponygirl813, Agree with Rocket; contact the RS folks about the problem with the luggage handle. In memory serves correctly, they have (or had) a real good guarantee on their luggage. Never hurts to ask. If that fails, most luggage repair stores see this quite often and it can be fixed fairly inexpensively. Happened to one of our bags (not a Steves bag) and repairing it beat the heck out of buying a new bag.
I use zip ties to keep the zippers from opening. You could also use something as simple as a twist tie just to keep the zipper tabs together.
Twist ties work well. I use the ones that come from the grocery store - the ones you close plastic veggie bags with. And I use a color that contrasts with my backpack; my bag stands out amongst all the bags on the bus.
Ponygirl, I had a similar problem with my RS bag. Mine wouldn't retract well. They sent me a new bag. Wray
What Jane suggests is what I use too to tie two zippers together, use two safety pins works even better.
Ponygirl - yes - contact RS office. My expanding zipper broke and the replaced it. If you can, make sure you give them details and approximately when you bought it. At least they wanted that info for me. There great! Very pleased.

I have used twist ties in the past. But, I do like the idea of diaper pins. I think I will try that out on my next flight. I always seem to lose those twist ties.
