Rick's new Riga Rolling Case is now available in the RS store. It's going to replace the Ravenna which it looks very much like.
7 pounds, though!
Do you know if the rolling backpack's zippered compartment on the back can be locked? Thank you!

The pictures look like the Ravenna and the zippered pouches on the front of my Ravenna can’t be locked. I don’t see anything on the back but the small id pocket.
I was hoping for a new, lighter bag. This looks just like the Ravenna, just made with recycled plastic. And a few different pockets inside. Can’t see any improvement.
You can still get the Ravenna. It's in the bargain bin, for $79.
7 lb bag is a disqualification for me.
Stan, I only see the Ravenna for 199. The bargain bin is the mini one? I agree Lyndash-7 lbs is too much!
Any suggestions on what to use for luggage. I have a hard time managing a backpack through all of those big airports.
Thanks!
Backpack, my back won’t tolerate a backpack.
I use the RS rolling carry-on. The description says it’s 6.5lbs but when I got a new one a year ago, I weighed it as soon as I took it out of the box. My handy dandy luggage scale said “5lbs” (twice).
7lbs for the new Riga is too much, or the difference of a pair of shoes and pairs of pants. Plus the color choice is not my choice.
I use cable key chains threaded through the zipper tabs to lock them. I’m thinking RS uses the same style zippers on everything.
Can you tell me how to get to the Bargain bin? Whenever I go to the store it doesn't show it. Still trying to decide on what case to buy. I like the option of the Rolling Backpack since I will be doing a lot of train travel but not sure if it's worth the extra weight and would still take up as much room as a regular roller case. Not sure if my back can take the backpack only and especially if it doesn't have a hip belt. I used an Osprey 40 or 55 Farpoint in 2019 (can't remember) and it doesn't say on the backpack but the backpack itself without anything in it seems heavy and going through the airports was a killer, but so much easier to stash on the trains. I only brought a very lightweight Sea to Summit backpack but didn't use it much. I used my Baggilini crossbody everyday which had a side pocket for a water bottle and travel umbrella. Usually left the rain jacket in the lodging during the days I wasn't traveling. I am tall and strong but the thought of carrying everything on my back doesn't sound fun anymore. Over 65! When I traveled last year with a rolling bag my husband bought years ago there were a couple times when trying to get it in the overhead compartment It took a lot of effort. This was on the way home when I was pretty exhausted! I didn't want to check it because it took a couple flights to get home. I looked at the Travel Pro with just 2 wheels which make it much lighter and it is the one the flight attendants use. Sorry if not allowed to name brands that aren't sold by Rick Steves. I haven't been able to find a duffle roller bag that gets good reviews. Thanks for the input.

I found the bargain bin!
Another question I have is how do you lock the Rick Steves Luggage? It's very hard to tell if you can put a lock on the zipped up compartments. As a solo traveler that makes a difference. I can't take my luggage with me on the train every time I use the facilities. Traveling in Poland and Czech Republic and possibly Slovakia. Thanks for the info.

This is something that always surprised me. As much as RS talks about pickpockets and moneybelts, he doesn' make it easy to lock his luggage. (I learned he doesn't lock his luggage.)
What you can do with the newer zipper pulls is this. If you look at the connection between the zipper pull and the zipper itself, there is usually enough space to place a small lock. But not all his zippers are double. For some, you can line up the zippers in such a way to use either a Cable lock or Cable Key Ring to attach the zippers. It's hard to describe.
A few years ago, I had a conversation with the Man in Seat 61. I asked what he does when you has to use the facilities on a train. He said he leaves his main bag because most thieves know the only things in there are clothes and toiletries, but he takes his other smaller bag with valuables, electronics, etc with him. He never leaves it at his seat. And that's what I do.
