Rick Steves' shirts that appear on the show

I was wondering if anyone knows what brand of shirts Rick wears on the shows? The short and long sleeve button-ups in solid colors?

Jeepers, I just followed the link, and that shirt is $80! Although they are offering a buy one, get one free deal. I should hope so!

Well, since he's not carrying a PacSafe -- and the two shirts probably last through a 100-day season -- not a bad price even at retail. Even for people for whom it's not a business expense.

From the shows he appears to wear J. Banks and Dockers. From all of the traveling and laundry he does, you need gear that will hold up. $80.00 for 2 shirts is not bad.

$40 for that type of shirt is the going rate for that quality. Nordstrom has an equivalent shirt and it's about $35-$40 on sale per shirt. They wash and wear very nicely and they last for many years! It's worth that price.

Joseph A. Bank often has sales on their clothing and the prices often vary wildly. If you check their web site on a regular basis, you will see what I mean. One week, a pair of pants was $89. A week later they will have a buy one get one free promotion and the same pair of pants is suddenly $180. So, do your homework before you make a purchase.

I sign up for Nordstrom's emails and they will send you an email on their sales. Joseph A. Banks may do the same. I won't pay full retail price, but their sales are very good. The clothes are still expensive on sale, but the quality is top notch, and the clothes will last a very long time. My husband will usually donate the clothes to charity before they wear out - and he'll wear them for YEARS before he does so.

Before Joe Banks got bought out they used have almost constant buy one get three free or three dress shirts for $99 type sales. There was a store right across the street from my office so I bought a good amount of work clothes there before I retired. You were nuts if you paid full price though. The quality was decent but a step down from Brooks Brothers or HSM.

They still have sales but not as good as previously. Not sure how the quality is these days though.

A funny coincidence: I took my mother shopping yesterday, and the local Goodwill had some Jos Banks shirts for $4.50. They were used, of course (or should we say "pre-worn") but were in great shape. None in my DH's size or color preference, but I'll check back again.
