Rick Steve's Euro Flight Bag Valid As An Air France Accessory?

Air France's accessory description are rather vague and we are getting conflicting answers.

Laptop/notebook cases are considered acceptable. My laptop case is 16" x 14" x 5".

The Euro Flight Bag is 14" x 13" x 8".

Total dimensions for both items are 35" and both will fit under the seat. In fact, I think the Euro Flight Bag might fit more easily.

One contact told us that the flight bag doesn't appear to hold accessories and would be considered our one free carry on bag and NOT an accessory.

Has anyone had experience using the flight bag as an accessory with Air France?

No one's tried to use the flight bag as their accessory item on an Air France flight?

It occurs to me that I could stuff as many clothes in my laptop bag as I could the flight bag. The only difference is that the laptop bag looks like it was made to hold a laptop! I think it would be ludicrous for one to be allowed but not the other. Also, the flight bag weighs less than any of my laptop/notebook bags. I suppose it's the just the eye of the beholder on duty at boarding time.

I used the Euro Flight Bag on my last trip as my extra bag and there were no problems what so ever. I had my backpack that I put in the upper cabin bin and put the Euro bag under the seat with plenty of room for my feet (we were in Economy). I would not overstuff it though just to be sure but mine was pretty full.

Thank you for the info Carole! BTW....was it Air France? I've been told they are somewhat more particular.

The flight over was Delta but from Paris it was Air France. You should not have a problem.

Hi everyone,
I'm glad this was posted because I wanted to ask the same question. I went to Rome this past Feb. and absolutely brought too much. Hadn't checked luggage in years and did that trip-my baggage was delayed by a day! I bought the RS rolling carry on and used it for a small trip (non-flying) and I love it. So I am going to Greece next Mar. 2017 and I am only bringing that bag as carry on. I really would like to bring the Euro flight bag with me in the cabin too (will not stuff it, just a few small items and some snacks). I have the veloce ipad bag but I don't think there will be enough room in that for snacks. (I hate the vegetarian meals I have gotten on planes and I end up so hungry when I arrive at my destination) so I prefer to bring something I can actually enjoy. So looking at the replies here, it seems that it would be okay to bring the two in the cabin with me? If I can, I will buy this bag. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks everyone! Margaret

Margaret, this isn't what you were asking, but Delta's Asian vegetarian meals are pretty good and maybe other airlines have something similar. I have the RS Rolling backpack, the Veloce shoulder bag, and the Euro flight bag. Delta forced me to gate check the Rolling backpack twice on domestic flights, so I got a tote bag on Amazon. Last year I used the Veloce shoulder bag and the tote bag going to Europe, having packed a smaller day bag. Next trip will be the day bag with the Euro flight bag (which is easy to load up and carry too much!).

Hi Margaret. I think we are on the same tour! Anyway, I have the Euro flight bag. It fits nicely under the seat, but it is really easy to overpack it so be careful as it can get heavy. It is amazing how much that bag can hold and still fit nicely under the seat. See you in Greece! Wray

Thank you so much for your replies Fluffy and Wray! I will definitely look into the asian vegetarian meals. The food I was given on Delta and Air France was really awful and I had missed a connecting flight to Rome so when I arrived there at 11pm at night, I couldnt find anything near the hotel to eat and I was so hungry. I had to dig through my bag for some crackers to hold me over until morning LOL. I said I wont make that mistake again. Wray, I just switched my tour this afternoon from the Greece trip to Spain in Feb 2017. I feel so bad I had to do that. I just switched postions in my job and before I had even applied for the position, I had booked that Greece trip. My boss in that department approved it so it wasn't a problem but I am a nurse and worked on a telemetry unit so I didn't need to worry about who would cover me on those days off. This new position is for the same hospital but in a department with only 4 other people and I felt very bad asking them to cover me on the time off. I am really disappointed but I just didn't think it was right to do. So I called today and asked them to switch me to the Best of Barcelona & Madrid tour in Feb 2017. After I am working in this position longer, I will take that longer tour. I will definitely get either that Euro flight bag or the Veloce shoulder bag. Thanks so much! Margaret

I always take almonds and Atkins protein bars, in case I'm unable or unwilling to forage for food.

Thank you Fluffy. Something like protein bars are a perfect size to bring and will certainly hold me over if I can't get a regular meal. Take care, Margaret

Thanks for this question. I now have the rolling carry on and the euro flight bag for upcoming trip and I had the same questions about the bag. However, seeing what some people carry on, I think I'm okay.

Sorry this response isn't specific to Air France, but it may still be of interest.
I have now used the combination of the RS rolling suitcase and the Euro flight bag as carry-ons for several domestic flights with no problem. Compared to what other people are bringing on, both bags together have a very small footprint. The rolling bag is particularly clever. It looks very small, but holds a LOT. (must be unexpanded to meet carry-on standards) I am loving both bags, but using them stacked together takes some clever packing. In order to weight them so that they don't tip over when stacked you need heavier things in the bottom of the rolling bag. However, if you leave too much empty space on the top of the rolling bag, it sags down when you put the Euro flight bag on top and that makes the flight bag unstable. I have adapted to this challenge by packing my bulkiest (but lightest) items on the top of the roller bag. Packing extra shoes in that location would probably work as well.
I will be testing them on international flights soon, but I do not anticipate any problems. I would say the biggest "problem" with the combination of the two bags is the temptation to pack too much. :)
