Just wondering how many items would fit in the large and the medium sizes. Dimensions given don't include height of the packs and the photo looks like just one item in each. It sounds as if they only open on one side with a slide zipper type closure - like a zip lock bag but with the one way valve so air doesn't get back in? Any comments, experiences or suggestions welcome, with thanks.
I have used that kind of compression zipper lock and how much you get in depends on the fabric of the items. IF things are very "squishable" like fleece, you can get more in. If things are a tighter weave - cotton or linen for instance, it will depend. The marketing blurb on Rick's say you can fit twice as much and I am not sure that is a correct statement in real life! And yes, there is a zippered opening on one end and the one way valves on the other end.
The Large size is 27 ½" x 18" so that is bigger than my suitcase. Would it fit in the suitcase you are planning to take?
The Medium is 19 ½" x 14" so that is about the size of my roll aboard.
I am not sure if the measurements include just the part where you pack things or if includes the zip tab and area where the one-way valves are.
I've used a different brand before and did not like them. I used them for some fleece items and they were so bulky with the end pieces that I only used them one time. You may also be able to find them at Target or another store that sells luggage in your area so you can see what they look like.
I went back to using packing cubes with a compression zipper on them. For puffy stuff like a vest, I put it in a ziplock, squish the air out and quickly insert it into an exterior pocket of my suitcase. It immediately re-inflates, so to speak but it's contained.
Thanks for your comments Pam. I'll be using a rolling carry-on so the large is likely too big. Think I'll look at some at the store as you suggest but the double zipper kind seems like a good bet!
Could you not fold it over after squishing the air out?
“Could you not fold it over after squishing the air out?”
They are kind of stiff after squishing and the times I’ve used them I wouldn’t have been able to fold it. It may depend on the fabric though. I might still have some in a bin of travel things so will try to remember to check tomorrow.
