reading glasses for make up application

I have been trying to find a magnifying mirror that works for me for travel for quite a while. Its been such an aggravation that on my last few trips, I've mostly gone sans makeup.

Well, I wish I would have thought of this, a game changer. There are reading glasses with one lens that can be flipped from side to side depending on the eye you'd like to apply make up (or put in a contact lens)

I saw them on the NBC morning show and got them for about half price (about $12 plus shipping). They do carry "regular" readers for women and men and also for computer use and sunglasses.

Nice idea, Jules! And the color/pattern styles are cute!

I always wear makeup and am past the age where I can clearly see it with just a regular mirror. My habit is just to put it on without a magnifying mirror while traveling, so I started practicing a few years ago without a magnifying mirror at home, too, and then checking it occasionally with the magnifier.

Jean, I've never been able to get the eye make up without a magnifier.

I have also reached the point where magnification is necessary for me to get my face on straight, have one of those mirrors at home that attaches to the wall and extends out. For travel I found one on Amazon that's about 5" in diameter and has a folding stand--if I am lucky I get a room that has a chair and table near the window so I can really see what I'm doing; one of my pet peeves is bathrooms with not only no natural light but a bulb that is dim and way up high--difficult to insert contacts or see much of anything, really.

I think the glasses would only work if your eyes had the same or similar prescriptions- mine don’t, after cataract ops. But I have 2 small magnifying mirrors that I use, even at home. One of them is about 3 inches in diameter, I think I found them at my local pharmacy or maybe on Amazon. Foundation goes on in the bathroom using the normal mirror, eye makeup in the bedroom using my 5in mirror.

Excellent point, Amanda. I've tried several travel magnifying mirrors, none worked well for me. Some were too small, and some didn't have enough magnification, plus, I struggled to find a place to put them at the right height. At home, I have a large magnifying mirror mounted to a wall.

Horseless, so this wasn't a new idea. In any case, I'm sold.

Slightly unrelated, I've found to rhyme or reason to which and what type of hotels have magnifying mirrors. I stayed at a more budget/moderate hotel in Luxembourg that had a magnifying mirror. Every non and then a BnB might have one. I've been on 2 viking cruises, given the age of their clientele and the price of the cruises, I am shocked they don't have magnifying mirrors. On the last cruise, on a questionnaire, I commented that they should have magnifying mirrors in the bathroom. Two hours later, I had a large magnifying mirror on the desk!
