Rain coat for a woman

Can anyone recommend where I can buy a reasonable rain coat for a woman? NOT online. I need to be able to look at it and try it on. I do NOT buy online clothing unless I already know what size I want.

Must haves:

Longer coat, down to lower thighs or just about at the knee
An interior zippered security pocket
Some type of lining so it's usable in cooler weather (that is, not thin & flimsy)
Price--less than $150
No Velcro along the front zipper
A hood that fits properly

I have an Eddie Bauer Girl on the Go Trench and it's ok but a bit too flimsy without the liner and much too hot most of the time if I use the liner. It's really only good for rainy, 30 degree weather, maybe Iceland or Scotland. It wouldn't work for moderate temperatures.

I have a Carhartt rain jacket which I like but it's very flimsy and too short on me (it falls around the crotch area, which is too short).

LL Bean - lengths are either too short or too long. Flimsy fabric.

I don't like the styling of the Lands End Squall nor does it have the interior pocket, which is a MUST for me.

Most women's coats don't have interior pockets. I use them for security while traveling, due to pickpocketing.

I've looked in all of the main sporting goods stores (Dick's, EMS, REI, Sportsman's Warehouse) and nothing fits my needs.

Most of the high end brands like Helly Hansen don't have an interior pocket. I would pay a little more if I could get what I need.

Since it is really hard to find a jacket with an interior pocket, have you considered one with a pocket on the chest?

Living near Seattle, I have many rain jackets and my two favorite are the OR Aspire and an Arcteryx. The OR Aspire has a trench coat length. The full price is about $250, but you can find it on sale at times for about half of that. I have the regular length of this one and love it! It does not have a liner and I have never liked jackets with those. We go to Iceland pretty often and these are what I take there, even in the winter. I layer as I do at home, and the OR Aspire has kept me plenty warm, including 2 trips that were in full on blizzards. I use this same jacket for even warmish but rainy days here at home.

Have you thought of going to the men's department of stores like Nordstrom or Macy's or such? You'll get good pockets. I've bought men's ski jackets periodically through the years, but I'm 5'5" and have a chest. It likely depends on your shape. I'm still intent on wearing my husband's travel blazer to France shortly...beaucoup pockets!

I like my Eddie Bauer Girl on the Go Trench...but it doesn't sound like yours. I have a lining, but it is just a finishing lining and it doesn't come out. This is the raincoat I'm bringing to France.

Good luck! I hate shopping.

Agree with Wray.

Although I haven’t shopped in a clothing store or at REI (been a member since the 80’s) in ages I did purchase a men’s rain coat on line via Amazon. It’s an Ex Officio men’s. Love all the pockets and the front buttons are covered so no one can tell it’s a man’s jacket. Falls to my knees. Has a hood as well.

I’m short. The large fits perfectly and with Amazon Prime if it didn’t fit I could have returned it without much fuss.

I adore it and it has proved useful on countless London sojourns. Stellar interior pockets for iPhone,
Wallet and Oyster card holder. Exterior pockets nice and deep so gloved hands fit comfortably. Also 2 chest pockets which I might use for a kleenex
packet.

Have had the coat for over 7 years. Believe it’s referenced as a trench coat.

Lastly HAD to buy on line because I live in LA. Ever try building anything rain related here? It’s joke.

As proof it’s March. Windy and rainy in NYC. 50’s and rainy in Seattle. Will get to 45 in Chicago.

Here in the city of Angels I’ve turned on my AC unit. 85 degrees predicted high today.

Good luck with your search

EDIT; believe it cost $100
EDIT 2; I take and wear lightweight Patagonia turtle neck and if really cold an Amazon Essentials zip up puffer vest. The latter rolls up into its own carrying pouch. Nice large pockets in interior for phone, wallet, gloves.

Would you consider a base layer to wear under your Eddie Bauer trench coat (that you already like?) and thus skip using the liner that is too hot? If the EB trench ticks most of your boxes, that is what I would try to do. REI has a selection of fleece and soft shell jackets that might fit the bill - the added bonus would be wearing one under the trench coat would be de facto interior pockets because they would be covered by the trench. Just a thought, best of luck.

I have had good luck at Columbia Sportwear Outlet Store. Prices are cheaper and I really like my raincoat from them.

Lots of good ideas here.
Another idea, if you have found something that only lacks an interior pocket, is to have a tailor add it.

My wife has several vests (including one with a battery for really cold surprises). She loves them and their pockets... and they fit under almost anything else as a shell. They pack down well so they do not add much bulk. I particularly like my LL Bean puffy vest which is also great on long plane trips for warmth and with pockets for air-pods, phone, passport, etc that are right where I want them in the dark. Maybe add a separate under-layer like that which also adds to the security aspect. As noted of course my men's jackets have all the pockets I need.

One question-
What is your height- does that present a challenge, either way? Which length, in inches, do you want?
Macy's carries some London Fog trenches, if you have a Macys close by.
Scottevest garments have lots of inside pockets, I just wait for a sale.
Perhaps Gore-Tex items would solve your too heavy-too light issues. This fabric seems to adapt.
Do you have travel stores in your area?
Do you want water resistant or water proof ?
Sierra Trading Posts has some great sales, with good return policies.
I agree, you'll have to give up something, and for a wider variety, may- may- may have to consider online shopping.
Good luck !
