Podcast: What to Wear in Paris

On the "Join us in France" podcast they have an episode called "What to Wear in Paris" which covers a lot of the topics that are frequently asked on the board. They are very entertaining and have some great ideas. I am looking forward to listening to more of episodes.

LOL. I wore to Paris what I wear at home: clean jeans, clean shirts and comfortable shoes. No problems!

Kathy- throw comfortable, stylish and modest in there and I am with you! Their target audience is the over 40 crowd and they just hit on shorts on women and men, shoe styles etc.

FWIW, my female friends always enjoy buying some clothes in countries like France and Italy. Partly to look more like a local, and partly so they can take them home and show off their new items. :-) Sexist or not, most women enjoy shopping for interesting and different clothing that they like. Alas, we men are pretty much stuck with the same-old same-old.

Once in Turkey, many of the female in our group purchased the baggy Turkish pants/dresses worn by many older Turkish women. They were stopped on more than one occasion by Turkish grand mothers who were fascinated that western women would wear such clothing. Many photos were taken of our western women and the Turkish grandmas posing in those pants. And it was lots of fun for us men watching this go on. Other than some head coverings, the men mostly looked like us. :-(

Barnstormer, my 27 yr old, straight, son would disagree with you, lol. He just spent 2K in Paris on cool, cutting edge, stylish clothes he can't buy here in SF. He had a great time shopping! I, on the other hand, hate clothes shopping...

I'm with you Kathy and Letizia, I wore nice jeans, shirt, scarf, nice sweaters and nice jacket... oh, and the forbidden white New Balance tennis shoes lol. Actually, white, cute tennies are very stylish in Paris at the moment.

Nope, not this one! Spent my euros on art-museum books...although I did spring for a couple of inexpensive scarves to juice up my plain T's, though. :O)

Hopeless (age almost-62) tomboy, me.

Kathy, any place in Paris you can recommend for scarves? I looked every day and could not find any that were reasonably priced much to my sorrow.
I can get nice ones here for less than any I found in Paris. Even Monoprix prices were ridiculous.

Oh gosh, Susan, I'm trying to remember as it was a few years back.... I believe I bought them at some little shop near the Louvre. They had a bunch on a sidewalk display that I thought were fun although I'm sure they're not considered 'quality."

Actually, white, cute tennies are very stylish in Paris at the moment.

Low-top, Converse-type tennies in all different colors were big with the young ladies when we were there. And dark jeans, white shirt and navy, double-vented sportcoat appeared to be de rigueur for businessmen. We saw that combination everywhere! Don't know if that's still the case?

My best shopping in Paris happened on my last day, a Saturday, in the Marais--I bought what is now my favorite scarf with an abstract pattern of crows and branches from a little goth-esque boutique and had a wonderful conversation with the shop owner, then came upon a pop-up shop where they had exactly the kind of quirky clothes I like with unusual screenprint designs and trims--came away with 2 sweaters and a T. When people comment on them I love being able to say, "I got this in Paris."

As others have said, I wore my usual clothes when in Paris--skinny jeans, jersey top or light sweater with a scarf, either boots or a colorful pair of Fluevog oxfords.

Annie and Elise, the creators of the podcast, do usually spend several minutes at the beginning of each podcast pushing their new tours and pushing for donations and subscriptions, but they do actually give a great deal of good information. I listen to all of them and usually learn several bits each show. I just tune out the ads and listen to the shows....

I'm in London and last night I was watching news reports about the shooting on the Champs Elysee. A young Frenchman, mid-20's, was interviewed. He wore a smart blazer with a nice button down shirt......and a NY Yankee baseball hat.

Of course, wear something in which you are comfortable like a maxi dress, jean s and smart crop top or for the famous Paris night wear LBDs or gowns.
