Personal item - AA vs. BA

I have a quilted carpetbag-like bag that I’m hoping to use as my personal item on the plane. It doesn’t have any sort of hard frame, so it’s quite squash-able. It measures 16 x 13 x 7 inches, so it’s well within the limits for American Airlines (18 x 14 x 8). However, one leg is on British Airways, which has stricter limits (16 x 12 x 6). Given the bag’s squashability, am I likely to be able to use it on that flight anyway? Thanks!

Sure. Just don't stuff it full, so it can be squished into a sizer if you are asked.

I have flown both BA and AA numerous times. I've had bags slightly bigger than their personal item limits a few times. While they do look at the size of my carry-on they have never batted an eye at my personal item.
