Passport...what to copy.

I've asked this before but can't find it. I got our passports out and made colored copies of just the two pages. One with my picture and the other on top of it. Is that all I need to copy from the passport?

Yes. The only reason to make a copy is to prove that you had one should your lose it. It cannot be used as a substitute ID although some do try.

Thanks...just wanted to make sure those 2 pages were enough.

I renewed my passport last year and a lot has changed since I last renewed it 10 years prior. They now offer the option of getting a passport card to go along with your passport. It's the size of a credit card, with your photo and all the necessary passport info on it. You're suppose to be able to use it in lieu of your passport for Canada and Mexico border crossings. This might be good to have as backup, filling the gap somewhere between your actual passport, and a paper copy.

I forego paper, take a picture with my phone and also send copies to myself in an email. I also photo both sides of all credit cards as well. Worked great when a pickpocket got my cheap travel wallet with two cards and $2US. Rest of my Euros was in pants pocket with majority of it and passport in money belt.

" You're suppose to be able to use it in lieu of your passport for Canada and Mexico border crossings."

Yes, but to clarify, it's only for land or sea crossings. If you're flying into or out of these countries, you must have a passport book; the passport card is not sufficient.

Keep one of those copies somewhere where you can access it from anywhere. As in a cloud drive or an email account.
