Packing system opinions

I recently bought a Eagle Creek folding pack-it folder and tried it on a trip to Phoenix for 4 days. I was able to just use my Patigonia transport 26L shoulder bag and I had room to spare! I'm thinking of trying to spend 2 weeks in Italy in May with just the shoulder bag as my only luggage but would like to hear from others who have tried this device on trips to Europe. I have to be honest and say I have always envied Frank & Lee for being able to travel with bags smaller than a typical carry-on with wheels, as I carried my Transporter 26L through the airport it didn't seem to heavy on my shoulder. The more I read and listen to folks on this forum the less I travel with each year, my wife says I'm part of a "cult" LOL!

We have been using ours for years, over 10. They are fantastic at keeping your clothing neatly folded and suitcase organized. Recently, we purchased the ultra light packing folder, there is a marked difference in weight. We even purchased the compressible cube, but not to be able to pack more. just more compact!! My husband's bag had to have contents inspected, the TSA agent remarked how the folder and cube made the process easier and quicker. We have even used these as a laundry "bag", plus as the clothes come out of the dryer they can be neatly folded and easily carried back to the hotel.

We've started using packing cubes in the last couple of years. We have the Ebags zippered ones in a variety of sizes. We find they make finding things in our bag much easier, we can pull out the cube that contains what we need without messing up everything else.

On trips when we are changing locations a lot, if we are spending just one night in the next location we will repack before we leave the previous location so that everything we need for the next stop is in one cube. No fuss no muss at the next stop. No need to take out (and possibly accidentally leave behind) things we don't need.

One thing I always had trouble with was my shirts. I (apparently) am not a good roller and when rolled, they continued to come out wrinkled. Even though I am a large guy, I bought a med pack it folder because it fits perfectly in all of my suitcases. Normally, I pack 4 shirts (with one "extra fold" in the shirt tail) and the folder works great. It is one of three "luxury" items that I feel really makes my trip easier.

We both use an Eagle Creek folding pack-it folder and love them. Bought them for a trip to Europe years ago and they always go with us now!

Bought a folder when REI was having a big sale earlier this year and tested it out on a week-long trip to New Orleans -- packed two dresses, linen pants, blouses and they came out wrinkle-free even in a soft-sided carryon bag. Only downside is that sale meant the only available color was orange. Also picked up some extra packing cubes for about $6 each, with free shipping to the REI store near me. Looking forward to using all these on a two-month trip to Europe -- maybe I can actually go carry-on this time!

eBags has recently come out with a new line of ultra-lightweight packing cubes.

The large is 13" x 13" x 3.5 " and weighs 2 oz. The slim is 13" x 6.5" x 3.5 " and weighs 1 oz. The small is 6.5" x 6.5" x 3.5" and weighs under 1 oz. They come in four colors, zip on three sides and have a mesh top.

Note the large and slim together are 19.5 x 13 x 3.5--almost perfect for most carry on bags.

I have them and I like them compared to the other ultra-lightweight packing cubes.

They are currently on sale.

Several years ago we purchased some packing cubes from RS and found that they really make packing & un-packing so much easier than before. We separate things like underwear, shirts, pants, etc. It seems that using the packing cubes makes for more compact packing of our 21" RS roller bags.

I don't travel anywhere without my Rick Steves packing cubes. I also have some Eagle Creek packing cubes, but prefer the RS. They keep my bag organized and if I want to unpack when I arrive somewhere I just take the cubes from my suitcase and put them directly into the drawer.

I have moved to the Eagle Creek compression packing cubes for things like underware and socks. Very lightweight and when you compress it takes up no room.

I can do it all in a 19" non expandable rollerboard so I think I am doing good right now.
