Packing and trip excitement crazies

I leave in less than a week for my first trip back to England in 3 years. I'm beyond excited but that's my problem! Other than cutting back on coffee, does anyone have any good ideas to manage trip excitement?! I LOVE being excited but don't want to be a puddle of nerves before I go! How do YOU keep your trip excitement meter in check while still
being thrilled to go? Thanks and Cheers!

Okay to be excited, but above all, get plenty of sleep and rest. Aside from jet lag, showing up with 3-4 nights of little sleep makes for a miserable first week.

I go over and over my plans, obsessively watch the weather forecast, and read news from the country or city I am visiting. There are also myriad household tasks on my pre-trip checklist, and I cook some soup and chili to have in the freezer when we get home.

Good luck and happy travels!

Make a packing list and double check everything! I get excited when the trip is about to start and sometimes forget something that I ordinarily wouldn't. Don't have the TV on or another person in the room that is wanting to talk with you about something. I know this sounds a little OCD but nothing bugs me like getting to Europe and not having something that I use frequently.

Also the last thing my wife and I do before we leave for the airport is make each other show us their passport and credit cards in order to make sure we are ready for the flight.

I always as many of my clothes as I canwell in advance. Same thing with organize pills and toiletries. If I feel everything is under control, or don't want to look at it anymore, I start planning my next trip. It might be a little late in your process, but thought I'd throw that out there.

Since it’s been a few years since your last trip, here’s some items that I had to add to my previous packing trip for my 2022 trips:

KN95 masks in a Ziploc bag, Purell individual sanitizer packs, and a few extra packs of single serving nuts or trail mix in case I was stuck waiting longer than anticipated for transportation connections. I also took two extra weeks of my prescription medicine - just in case and extra cold medicine.

If you happen to be retired, I stayed away from everyone for the last 10 days to avoid catching anyone’s colds, etc.

Watch a few movies with settings from your travel location, listen to relaxing music, go on a nice walk, eat as healthy as possible so you sleep better, and hang out at our forum! ; )

Have a great time on your trip!

Once you know everything is in order and packed, just go for long walks to burn off that energy. It really works!
My biggest fear when leaving the country is forgetting my passport. One of my guides on a RS tour, after having several people forget their passports in the hotel, was to ask us each morning "did you touch your passport?" (shout out to George}. It is advice that I follow every day while on the road. Touch that passport before setting out!
Have a great trip.
