Oh No! Holiday Travel Sales are Here!

I was internet surfing. I must hide my wallet. Travel luggage sales are here. Some items on Amazon.com: pink American tourister under seater = $63: Vera Bradley deluxe travel tote - bees or green floral about $72: us traveler rio luggage, many color choices, about $47.

I need to hide my iPad for at least 1 week.

Travel bags make great Christmas gifts.
I have a couple of people to buy for who really need a new carry on bag, overnight bag, or a "weekender" bag.

Sun baked,
I feel your pain…I keep deleting the sale updates from my favorite vendors, … but splurged on a packable vest from Eddie Bauer…
Hmmm, packing cubes from ebags??? Tempting… I don’t really need them but ….maybe I will take a look, just in case????🫣😆

Well, if you want to look in my behalf…..I want a personal item (prefer a little under with each dimension but not to much) backpack that opens like a suitcase (clamshell is fine as well), has a trolley strap and weight under 1.5 pounds.
Would like some kind of outside pocket but don’t really want a laptop compartment.
And I’d like it to be red (okay, purple is fine as well)
Not that I’m picky or anything…….

Doric, camo. netting is insufficient. I need a sealed box and a shovel to bury my iPad to limit access.

I’m so bad about sales. I even asked my daughter if she needed a weekend travel bag, just so I had an excuse to buy one. She had the nerve to say “no.” Then, I thought about gifts for coworkers.

PandaBear,
Are you looking for something around 18”x14”x8” that can fit underseat? (28 liters)

CabinZero and ecohub have some bags. I’m with you on no laptop compartment and simple pockets. Cabinmax on Amazon.com is a potential choice as well. Note: on CabinZero bags - the 28 liter “military” pack expands a bit when packed, but will still fit underseat. Has better shoulder/back padding than its standard bags. Only comes in “military” drab colors. I like the dimensions of the CabinZero military pack better for carry comfort. (Bags that are too short from top grab handle to base don’t ride well on my back.)

PandaBear,
Cabin Max Manhattan - 24 liters. Deal Breaker for you - no red, no purple.

Cabin Max Mini Metz - 30 liters: red available. Deal Breaker - trolley strap?

Anyone else get the emails from Travel Fashion Girl? She's more high end than I am although I did get seduced into her recommendations for the Eddie Bauer Destination 2.0 sunshirt last fall and it was an excellent buy! Here's a link to her list for good buys for travel items this year....includes some Nomad Lane, TravelPro, Baggallini stuff from various retailers.

I have been known to save impulse buys that can't be returned and use them for high school graduation gifts.......

Andrea,
You took racquet588’s advice. So far, you are by far the most successful shopper on this thread for holiday sales. Big win on that cruise! Forget the stuff - buy a holiday trip! Big thinkers on this thread! (My mind is much smaller than those ideas.)

Yes Pam- I do get Travel Fashion Girl emails. Agree, she is more high end than I am, but I did purchase a great Sherpani brand bag or two because of her recommendations.

Hi Sun-Baked in FL,

Check out Costco too. I just got the member's $120 off for the highly-rated Bose Q45 noise cancelling headphones to replace my 10 year old Audio Technica set.

Cheers,
Moomin

I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this thread. 😕 Now I'm upstairs examining hubby's luggage to see what I might convince him to buy for our May trip. Surely he needs something!

Moomin,
Thanks! There is no Costco in my county. But, the Bose headphones are great for flying. I bought my music loving husband a set with a case for flying. One of the best gifts I found for him. He takes them every time he flies.

Oh geez, I really shouldn't have looked at this. I'd dearly love to find a wheeled carry on that weighs less than 2 lbs, but I don't think it exists, so I'm safe from that. I did, however, click on the link texastravelmom provided and I'm sure I have a back pack problem, because I don't actually NEED another, but I kind of really WANT that bag.

Okay KRS,
Take it slow. Think of more reasons not to pursue the ecohub bag. Examples: look at other bags: too many pockets: boxy and shorter length against one’s back: there will be other bags coming along.

I have been holding off coming here but could not resist.

I need a crossbody bag for my next trip. Not a Baggallini but something lightweight, medium size (maybe 7L capacity?), with a zippered closure, adjustable crossbody strap, and pockets on the inside, but not too many on the outside (I forget where I put stuff and spend too much time searching through the bag). 🤣 Preferably not black but it's not a dealbreaker.

Mardee,
Vera Bradley has crossbody bags in different styles and sizes. (The hedgehog pattern is a departure from standard black.). Have you considered Ameribags? Extra small or small should work. Hold a lot due to great internal organization. I own a couple ameribags (tear drop shape).

I think I satisfied the urge to shop for now. I've had the ebags slim cubes in my Amazon cart for a while now. They're only 10$, but the shipping was another 5$, which annoyed me. I just went to the ebags site and ordered directly from them with no shipping costs. I love cubes and have found they really make packing so much easier, but these slim ones will be a great addition since they can squeeze into the sides of my backpack where there's sometimes extra space simply because the other sizes don't fit just so.

Now I'm wondering if I should take a peak at Google flights to see what's affordable for next fall....

Mardee,
RedOxx has the chica bag - 7 liters. I don’t personally have this bag. I would caution that the nylon webbing strap may be uncomfortable. May need a different strap. I have the PUP which works best as a tote bag, but does have a trolley strap. I wouldn’t want to walk for long periods of time carrying the PUP.

KRS, I want this backpack, too! I am feeling fortunate today that am picky - I want a particular shade of blue….. In this size. No one is selling that…. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sun-Baked, I checked the Ameribags, but I'm not crazy about the teardrop shape. Love RedOxx bags, but my biggest problem is that they're heavier than I like. I do like that Chica bag, though. Pricier than what I would like to pay but not a dealbreaker. Do they ever have Black Friday sales? Thanks! And this would be more for a day bag; not anything I would need a trolley sleeve for.

Diane, I like that Tom Bihn bag. Didn't realize that they have a new crossbody. I wish there was a video of it. It looks like it has the propensity to be a bit of a black hole, but the size is certainly contained at 4 1/2L. I wonder if my Side Kick would fit inside. Ever since Tom Bihn retired, I've been a teeny bit leery of their new bags with the new ownership, but it looks like this one would work well. I put my name on the email list so will see what happens. Thanks!

TTM, are you still looking for the blue clamshell backpack? Did you ever find your crossbody phone case?

Posted by

Yes, I found the purse and loved it on my last trip! Best of Show goes to Nancy who suggested eBay! I am still on the hunt for my backpack. Because I am picky. 🤣 Till I find exactly what I want, the Rangeland works well.

I've been resisting opening this because I do not need another bag of any shape or form.

BUT! @TexasTravelMom -- that bag has a cute little pocket for an AirTag! Very thoughtfully designed bag!

I just pulled out my Longchamp Le Pliage which I didn't like much as a personal item but I've decided it will work great for a "winter accessory" bag - 3 pr gloves of different weights, 2 kinds of overgloves, 3 hats, a head band, 2 different weights of gaiters, lol....Yep, I'm ready even though today still feels like Fall!!

Okay, not to detract from anything here but I would be remiss in my duties as a bag enabler if I didn't mention the Black Friday thread on the subreddit OneBag at Reddit. Many sales!!! And not just packing items but trips and booking sites are having sales. Cotopaxi has a lovely Cielo rain anorak for sale!

re: Mardee
I purchased last year TB Co-Pilot for DH. He loves this bag as it's very, very well made and in his opinion "something that NASA might use for the space station shuttle trips". Industrial strength is important to DH. 😊

This was our first TB purchase so I can't compare products before/after change in ownership but I can't imagine how the Co-Pilot could have been better made.

Thanks to you and other packing enablers I have also purchased the Everyday Cublet and several Travel Trays. The Travel Trays make great gifts and are always well received.

Unfortunately TB products are not on sale. Sorry to go off topic Sun-Baked.

Well, I just found a crossbody bag that I liked and bought. The Sherpani Vale, at 12L but looks smaller, imo, and I like the fold-over style.

Also Sherpani is offering a deal. If you use your Amazon Prime account to purchase some (don't think it's all) of their bags, you get 20% off and free shipping. So that was a nice perk.

Diane, I do love the TB products. I have the Medium Cafe Bag, several Travel Trays (which I also gave as Christmas gifts to my sisters last year and they loved them), the Side Kick, the Clear Toiletries bag, and some other ones. The quality is always good. But as you can see below, I did find another bag that I liked and decided to get that one.

Found one more sale - Lo&Sons has bags (including the Catalina collection) on sale for as much as 60% off, depending on the style and color.

ETA: Also, Target has the Apple AirTags discounted right now. $24 for one (normally $30) and $80 for 4 (normally $100). Nice deal. Not sure if it's in store, though. The website says online only. But you can get the "PIck up" in store option though.

Diane,
I like rambling threads - more fun! 👜

Mardee - RedOxx builds to order. So, forget about sales. I don’t think the chica is the right bag for you. Too many better options for less money. I think the nylon strap would be uncomfortable to wear. Basically, it’s a small messenger bag.

Since I don’t need another bag - I have set my criteria very tight for my next bag (an under seater). Any bag that does not meet the criteria is eliminated. I am waiting for RedOxx, Rick Steves, or Tom Bihn to come through for me. I am still eyeing the Vera Bradley deluxe travel tote or Miller bag.

Sun-Baked, I just bought a personal bag about 6 weeks ago from Lo&Sons. I knew I wanted the Catalina Deluxe Tote but been waiting for over 9 months for their prices to go down to what I considered acceptable.

About 6 weeks ago, I was traveling back home from Ohio, and was in my seat on the plane waiting for take off. Suddenly, I got a notification of an email from Lo&Sons about a warehouse sale with prices up to 70% off. You should have seen me--I was scrambling to get to the website, choose my bag, and check out before we took off and I lost wifi.

I managed it, however, and got the bag I wanted for 70% off. The things we do for love...😊

That's the basic size....I kind of like something just slightly smaller, meaning 17x13x7, just so I have a little leeway. But I guess under packing will have the same efect and 18”x14”x8” would give more options.

PandaBear, Cabin Max Manhattan - 24 liters. Deal Breaker for you - no

Breaker - trolley strap?

Thanks, I'm checking them out.

PandaBear, like this? Because I am on the hunt for the same thing,
except I need blue. And not navy blue….

https://www.amazon.com/ECOHUB-Backpack-Essentials-Lightweight-Waterproof/dp/B0BZTWMCXX/ref=sr_1_64_sspa?crid=3RAFB3OT5KAY2&keywords=27+liter+backpack&qid=1700456028&refinements=p_n_feature_sixteen_browse-bin%3A23991404011&rnid=23991399011&s=pc&sprefix=27+liter+backpack%2Caps%2C114&sr=1-64-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1

Yes, exactly, but I am hoping for something slightly bigger.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I am going to have to decide what I'm giving up, since I can't seem to have "everything". To be honest, that's a whole other issue.....so many choices! I was kind of hoping being pickier would gives me an easier time choosing, but I guess that isn't going to happen.

PandaBear,
The CabinZero military 28liter pack is 16.9” x 11.8” x5.9.”
I watched a one bag travels video on YouTube about it. When stuffed to the max. - it still fits within the dimensions of a sizer box of 18” x 14” x 8.” I don’t think it has a trolley strap though. Would need to look into that.

My main objection is a personal beef - made in China.
Some of the other bags have too many pockets for my personal tastes,

More on Cabin Max bags on Amazon.com
The 24 liter Manhattan has a trolley strap.
The 30 liter Metz does not appear to have a trolley strap.
I guess the thinking design here is that a smaller pack could be supplemental. So, add a trolley strap. The larger bag is most likely sole piece of luggage. So, no trolley strap needed.
There is a cabin Max 20 liter Metz stowaway bag. But, my iPad is fickle this morning (like me).
Also, Matein brand travel pack.
Note: there are different variations of the cabin Max 30 liter Metz with regard to straps and back padding.
(Can this get any more confusing!)

Last year, 2022, United Airlines had a quick one-day sale on Cyber Monday for flights booked with points. Every flight booked with points was 50% off! It took me several hours to get onto the website, but I was able to book a roundtrip flight from New Orleans to Rome, Venice to New Orleans, for approximately 60,000 points (plus tax)! If you use United points for travel, it might be worth paying attention this Cyber Monday (the Monday after US Thanksgiving) to see if they repeat the offer this year.

Time to put the cc in a block of ice!

Who knew how many luggage/tote/personal item choices there were!

There are some I've had my eye on.

RS Rolling Carry-on. Cotopaxi Chasqui. Cotopaxi Nido. Cotopaxi Cubes. Ameribag Traveler. Multiple Tom Bihn items and Topo. Various travel-friendly items on Amazon.

I like the look of the Catalinas. Did you get poly or canvas? Only the canvas totes are on sale right now.

Yes, I got the canvas. The polys weren't part of the warehouse sale, so I bought the canvas, given that the price was only $61. 😊 And surprisingly, the canvas bags are only a few ounces heavier than the poly.

Joining my fellow packing "addicts", I wanted to pass along that Briggs & Riley is having a big Black Friday sale.
https://www.briggs-riley.com/collections/sale

Since Briggs & Riley rarely goes on sale, I thought some of you might be interested. Last year I got my husband the Baseline 22 inch carry-on and it worked great for 2 Europe trips this year. Has convinced him to do carry-on only for both all our trips now.

Mardee, what a score on the Lo & Sons tote. I have the canvas one and like it better than the poly because there is some give in the fabric. I use it with my Briggs &Riley ZDX carry-on spinner and have plenty of room for all my things to do carry-on only.

Thanks also for posting the reddit onebag travel link. I used that group for my research for my knackpack backpack which I love.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow packing people who feed my addiction to buy shiny luggage items.

itsv, good to know about the Catalina canvas bag! I haven’t used it yet, but will be doing a test run of it on January. And thanks for the link to the Briggs & Riley Black Friday sales! I don’t need another suitcase, but of course, it never hurts to look. 🤣

And Macy's is having Black Friday reductions to Victorinox (my fav) suitcases. Each is about $100 off regular price. I am a checked luggage gal as I have some liquid glucose that I have to check through for my diabetes. So I like hard-sided luggage and have had great luck with this brand. It's not cheap though so I always look for the sales. Here's hoping Santa brings you all some good travel gear!!
