New travel purse and Tom Bihn valet

I have a few purses that I usually take for traveling, but one was getting worn so wanted to replace it. Of course the company does not make that style anymore, so I had been on the hunt for quite some time. I finally found something I love! The convertible waxed canvas tote from www.mondaymorningstudios.com is exactly what I was looking for. I can zip the top, then fold it over and have the folded part close to me, and it is a crossbody bag. The size is exactly what I was looking for. My other purse had that fold over zippered access and it worked great for keeping things safe. That one went with me on at least 6 trips to Europe so I know the style works for me. The purse arrived 2 weeks ago and it is even nicer than what her website shows. I got the green with the brown leather:)

As a side note, I also ordered the Tom Bihn valet that Jean showed us when we were in Idaho. She had the large, and I wasn't sure if that might be too big, so I bought both that as well as the small. The small is really tiny, but I will use it as well for something. It is too good to return;)

mikliz97 thanks for the info on size of the valet. I was wondering if I had enough for the large size, but knowing the small is really small helped me to decide. I'm still trying to figure out how I can pack as light as Jean does. Her demo was amazing.

Not sure what you mean by valet. The travel tray or is there something new called valet?

Laurie Beth--I think I will like having both sizes. My phone would not lay flat in the smaller one, but I could easily fit everything else I would need, so I may still take that on our upcoming trip and leave the larger one at home.

Katiecem--Yes, the travel tray. I couldn't remember what it was called;)

mikliz97 - I think Valet is a good name for it, Travel Tray smushed into Valet. But I was hoping there was something new for me to enticed by.

Yeah, you found something you like, Mikliz97! And knowing you already like the style from past trips is a huge bonus.

Happy you enjoyed the packing demo, Laurie Beth! : )

Sharing a few details of the Tom Bihn tray for our forum regardless of what size you’re considering. Tom Bihn makes the two sizes in some options of fabric that don’t appear as obvious on their site. They have Halcyon, Cerylon and Ballistic listed in the variety of colors as you choose the colors. I have the lightest one, and it makes a difference in how tight the drawstring hole will cinch. I bought the same size for my daughter last year, and her fabric was slightly stiffer & a bit heavier. I didn’t like it, but she was fine with it. When I talked to customer service, he knew right away that mine was made with a more pliable material, so I would suggest checking with them when you’re wanting to place an order.

And maybe this will help for determining which size Tom Bihn tray is best for you:

Both sizes are about the same height, but the diameter of the small is 5.3” & the large is 8”. Weight difference with same fabric is .5oz.

Think about your space where you would pack it in your suitcase because the tray/bag cinched up is going to take the same volume regardless of whether you picked the small or large one. It’s the stored contents in the tray that will form the shape & matter. If you would rather have a flatter wide pancake, choose the larger one. If you would like more of a taller thinner cylinder shape to pack into your suitcase, choose the smaller one. The flatter pancake fits better in my luggage configuration. Also, I wanted my money belt & room key & plugged-in phone resting in it at night (ready for any emergency), so I chose the larger one. If yours is just for a pen, mints, reading glasses & chapstick type items, the smaller tray might be more what you want.

Which one is the lighter fabric that you prefer ?

That TB Large Travel Tray is one of my favorite travel accessories. I've had mine since 2013. I gift them to people often. I agree, that lightest material is my favorite (esp the newer CERYLON material).
