Next week, Eagle Creek will be coming out with a new line of Specter packing cubes. The material will change as will the design. The new cubes will open on three sides unlike the 2 1/2 sides they open now. The weigh increases very slightly. They will be called Specter Tech.
REI has some already for sale. But not the entire line.

Hi Frank, thanks for this info. I just got the Lewis n Clark lightweight cubes because I noticed the Eagle Creek didn't open on all sides. I just got those on sale at Sierra Trading post.:) I'm changing up my cubes this year since I got the RS Ravenna bag and need a little smaller cubes than my really old cordura cubes. Will be interested to see these new Specter Tech cubes. I just read Sarah Murdoch's (RS guide) blog post about all the packing cubes. So many choices!
Thank you Frank. I really like the Eagle Creek Specter packing cubes I have, but the are a little hard to pack some things. I will check next time I go to REI or look and see if Amazon might have them.
Right now, REI only has some of them online. No one else, except for Eagle Creek itself, has them. And if they don't have the entire line in stock. It usually takes a few weeks for new Eagle Creek products to get into stores.
