New packing system

Hey all:

I saw someone post on here about a new packing thing - I only saw one post (people thought it was an ad and may have been) - and now I can't find it. But anyway....

I checked it out and ordered one and I just got it and test packed in it. My son and I are going to Spain in March and because he just has to go to Gibraltar (grrr...) we have 1 night, 2 nights, 2 nights stay, and I thought this thing that you can take out of the bag and hang up would be much easier for such short stays and so many packing/unpackings. I'm guessing I can rearrange and make one of the holes for dirty clothes when it comes to that.

It's called the Pack at thepackgear.com. It came really quickly, and this is what I could fit in it (probably could get more, it's not full at all):
skirt, shorts, 2 capris, 2 hoodies, 5 short sleeve shirts, 2 scarfs, hat, nightgown, bathing suit, socks, undies, bras. (rolled)

It fits nicely in my RS rolling carry on with side room for sandals and toiletry bag. And the bag closes very easily, probably could lay my jacket on top without bulging the bag at all. I need to add (hopefully minimal) toiletries, but as it is about 16 pounds total.

I'll report back in April after I test it in the real world! Last trip I did the method where you lay all the clothes and fold them into each other and I liked that too, but hard to find just one thing if the stops are short. I did packing cubes the trip before that and they were ok, but I like that this one just hangs up. And it may keep me from overpacking.

I wish I could add my pictures! I am pretty psyched about it. Packing geek.

It would be great to have a review when you are back. I just looked at the website and I think I might have seen it on TravelFashionGirl since she is quoted on the site. It looks similar to those closet organizers for sweaters.

I'm not sure the advertising video will do much for sales but it's clear I'm not the target audience!

I'm not at all impressed with the video. It shows a chronic overpacker finding a way to add another 1/2 pound to their bag by using an enormous packing organizer. Not a great way to sell things.
Kim, I'm interested in what you find. I'm curious about wrinkles. i think I'll stick with bundle wrapping with a few ultra-sil cubes to organize electronics, undies, and junk.

Yes I did like the bundle wrapping for our 6 and 7 night stays, and even the three.. But in between we had a one and a two nighter and for those it was tough!

I'll experiment with rolling vs folding ... I'm guessing it will be more wrinkled than the bundle method, but I'll experiment!

I'd take one of those bags that folds up to the size of a wallet but opens to a decent gym bag size. For short stays, I put what I need in that and don't just don't open my suitcase. I also have an extremely light-weight backpack I bought at R.E.I. I can what I need for 2 nights in it. When I went to Toledo, I left my luggage in a locker at Atocha and just took the backpack and my day pack - very liberating.

I don't get the point. I get to my hotel. I unpack my bag. I am not competing in a race where seconds count.

Kim, I went to a packing seminar one time and picked up a good tip. She was a roller and when she rolled a shirt, for instance, she pulled at the sides of the roll as she went so the fabric was being smoothed out as it rolled up. Does that make sense? I have watched a ton of packing videos and had never picked up that you pulled as you rolled. It did make a difference for wrinkles but then I went back to flat fold and the Eagle Creek sil-nylon packing cubes Cindy references.

I don't ever unpack. I just pull the clothes needed for the day from the packing cubes.

I laughed at Cindy's very apt description of the chronic overpacker.

fyi--eBags has a new line of ultralightweight packing cubes. These open on all three sides, have a mesh top and piping around the edge to help keep its shape. This adds practically no extra weight.

Maybe it's just me but I am unable to buy anything from a website that like has to use a wannabe Valley Girl to like promote the new like system.

LOL!

I pack several small packing cubes quicker and tighter than this thing. Too much of a "packing system" adds just more ballast to your baggage.
