My lovely new tech organizer bag

I keep forgetting to post about this new purchase, but after seeing @cj-traveler's toiletry bag post, I finally remembered. Allow me to introduce you to my most recent bag purchase - the Calpak tech organizer!

I've been looking for something like this for awhile. I had previously bought a tech organize from Nomadic and traveled with it to Florida, but I just did not care for it. It had a stiff outer shell and took up way more room than I wanted it to. And because of the hard outer shell, it wasn't as easy to squish it into my bag. It also got dirty quite easily and it only comes in black, so no colors.

Then I found my Caltak tech bag. It comes in 7-8 different (and very cute) colors/patterns, and has lots of zippered pockets - two on the outside (one each side) and one mesh pocket inside, plus slip-in pockets and cable corrals. It's slightly padded for protection but not overly so. And it doesn't take up a lot of space but it really holds a lot. It's easy to fit it my luggage, too.

It's not too expensive and I got 10% off by signing up for emails. I'm excited about it and will definitely be taking it to Scotland in May. Now I'm eyeing their packing cubes...

Thank you, I just ordered one! I like that the fabric is very lightweight. I wish I had it today though for my trip tomorrow, but it should be here before my next one.

Very nice Mardee. I particularly like that it comes in polka dot. I bought my husband a tech organizer that he doesn't use and I don't because it is so stiff and heavy. I don't carry a lot of tech so I try to find as small a bag as I can.

mikliz97, I hope you like it! Have fun on your trip, too!!!

cj-traveler, aren't those polka dots cute? And I'm the same way about toiletries - I don't carry a lot so I have a very small bag. But I carry a lot of tech. 🤣

You and cj-traveler are such enablers!

I actually like the cloud design or the pink....since they don't have teal although the stars and moon design might pass for it. However, liner is too dark...I've really tried to go with light colored liners for things. Just easier to see what's there.

Mardee, have you by any chance tried to load yours with a UK adapter? They are so thick that I'm having trouble jockeying things into position in the BagSmart bag.

Pam, I have and it fits, but it's not pretty and I think it would poke a big hole in it if I pushed it. So I think I will just tuck it in a side pocket of my personal item someplace. It grieves me not to keep it with the tech, but it's so big! After I bought the most recent one, I found an old one in my travel stuff that I had forgotten about. It's much lighter and smaller (but still bigger than the Euro one) so I might think about bring that instead.

Frank, it looks nice and slim but doesn't it need that 3rd prong?

Frank! That is awesome and is now in my Amazon cart. Thank you! I like that they have a couple of bright colors as well.

Mardee, you have to watch the little video associated with it. There is a 3rd prong you add to it for the UK plug.

Oh, now I see! Yay, I just ordered it, too and I'm returning my ginormous one to Amazon. This one will definitely fit with my tech stuff. Thank you, Frank!

ETA: Pam, I love the colors, too! I decided to get the pink one so it will match my tech bag. 🤣

I suggest you practice putting the adapter together before your trip to get the hang of it.

BTW, I bought the tech organizer as I was looking for a new one. No wild colors. Moss green.

Just to add to the conversation, I have this as my tech bag. Not as cute though. Basic, but I can fit what I need for cords, power bank and flat dual USB plug.

This is what I have for an adapter, although I see they are no longer available (and it does not fit very well in the above tech pouch, si I'll have to check out these flatter designs!)

Frank, good idea - I will do that. I like that green color a lot.

Rebecca, nice bag! I have a lot more tech stuff, so I needed something with more pockets like the Calpak.

When you don’t think you need one more bag…I just bought 2! Both granddaughters are going to Europe independently for the first time this summer. I think they’ll really like them. I’ll ask for a trip/packing report when they return 😉.

And thanks for the slim UK adaptor link Frank. That may be going in our shopping cart for our upcoming trip.

I use these Tavelon bags. Not fancy or cute but light weight and can hold a lot. I wrap the cords with elastic hair ties. I found this works better than the tech organizer I was given. I bought mine at TJ Maxx a few years ago.

Mona, what fun! I hope they have a wonderful trip!

horsewoofie, I used to carry pouches that were somewhat similar for my tech stuff, but as my tech collection grew, they stopped working for me. Plus I kept losing track of what was in each pouch, and sometimes lost track of the pouch itself. I've found that having everything in one place is much easier for me. And the cute factor is gravy... 😉

bogiesan, I actually have one of the TB travel trays and love it! They're great for keeping stuff together in my hotel room and I even use it at home. But I really wanted something that I can store everything in when packing and traveling and for that, I need something like this tech organizer.

horsewoofie, this morning I was checking out a YouTube video by Laurie, who discusses travel tips and she was talking about those exact same pouches you linked to. But she uses them for toiletries. That seems like an interesting idea so I might check these out. I like the idea of splitting the toiletries up into a couple of pouches.

ETA: By the way, I found those same Travelon pouches on Sierra for $7.99 and ordered some for toiletries. Thanks!

We also use the Travelon Mesh bags. They work perfectly!

Oh, yeah, totally understood.

When I was making a living as a photogrpaher & video producer, ALL of my hundreds of cables, lenses, filters, batteries, and goofy doodads had to be scrupulously organized and methodically stored, each in its specific little house, or I'd never know if I had left something behind. It was a required discipline. It was madness.

I'm just going to point out that tech organizers, by definition, require organizing: coiling, segregating, sorting, zipping, tucking, fastening. A bag or pouch needs none of these things.
