My favorite new toiletry bag

I saw a bag similar to this one on Travelpro's website but thought the colors were boring so I looked and of course Amazon had several similar. What I like is it's efficient narrow rectangular shape that then opens very wide so you don't need to dig to find things. It comes in 4 colors for $16. I think it will fit in my luggage very efficiently.

Toiletry bag are like counter space - however much you have you'll fill it - so I try to take as small a bag as I can. After several trips I've almost perfected taking exactly as much as I need using the smallest refillable containers I can.

Well, cj-traveler, I did NOT need to see this, lolol! I got the BagSmart electronics cord organizer for Christmas (at my request) and of course this matches it, lol.

I'm not thrilled with the cord organizer as I did not look at the picture closely to see that the small elastic holders were not filled with the charging cubes so I'm having trouble getting those fit in. I'm still working with packing it up. The thing I liked is that it lays out flat and has a light color lining. I thought it would work for a bedside table catchall as well.

Have you given it a try yet? How does it do when you zip it back together. The picture showing it open shows everything laid out nicely but I imagine when you zip it back together it stack on top of each other? It is 5.6 oz (cord organizer is 3.9 oz).

@Pam: A “compulsive organizer” like me did not need to know such a bag exists. I can’t get over my “bag addiction” if I keep reading this forum.

When I travel, I keep my electronics in a free mesh cosmetic bag. Hmmmm….

I just got it so haven't tried it on the road yet, but I did load in all the empty containers I normally use (my 3-1-1 bag) plus the non liquids and still had plenty of room for meds. Will need to do some experimenting before our first big overseas trip in Jun. For my bedside bag, I have a small zippered clear bag 2x3x7 that was actually the shipping container for something else. It's big enough for a small hand lotion, lip gloss, nail scissors, file, pen, etc that.

I think I need an intervention! My first question was, “How much does it weigh?”

It looks very useful. Let us know how you like it when you’re back from a trip. I had to laugh, though, at the second view of it on Amazon which says, “Quick storage for the lazy”. I’m assuming that didn’t get translated the way they intended - LOL!

My DIL was asking if I would make her a cosmetic bag to hold a large 'paddle brush', and I ended up designing and sewing one very much like this....but it had an added central zip pouch which I think would be handy for all those small things like tweezers and Q-Tips. Here is a sample from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/BELCOSD-Capacity-Cosmetic-Waterproof-Multifunctional/dp/B0BQ65KX1D/ref=sr_1_4?c=ts&keywords=Cosmetic%2BBags&qid=1678475922&s=beauty&sr=1-4&ts_id=11062771&th=1
I had to watch a lot of YouTubes and fiddle with some of the measurements for 'free' patterns of it, but I figured it out. I am tempted to make one for myself, but between travel bags, and the free with purchase make up cosmetic bags, I really, really don't need another one. Not to dampen the other's enthusiasm, but on a recent trip to Costa Rica, I had very small or no counter space to lay this out. Given that I often stay in apartments, I don't think they will consistently be better either so I talked myself out of 'have to have' it.

I Still love my E-Bags pack it flat toiletry bag. I can slip it into my personal item like it's a laptop, it just slides in. It hangs when I get to my destination, cause we all know there is zero counterspace in those European bathrooms. That just still looks too bulky and big. Glad it is working for you, I went through a few of these types of chunkier style bags before I found the flat one. I give it as a gift for anyone going on a big trip now. I have a whole separate make-up bag that is chunky, but much smaller.

@ Carol....oh yes, it's pathetic isn't it? Ohhhh, teal was my first thought.

@ Jean .... after "Ohhh teal" my 2nd thought was how much does it weigh? I hadn't noticed the quick storage for the lazy...yes, that sounds like a googletranslate mis-translation. Literal but not correct, lol.

@ Maria! Wow! I remembered I think that you quilted but impressed with your designing and sewing an organizer!

On my last trip I was very much in to going as lightly as I could so I ditched my regular toiletries kit which is the ebags flat pack toiletry kit. It weighs 10.5 oz which is more than I wanted to dedicate to the organizer. I wound up with an old Eagle Creek mesh pouch that came in at 7/8 of an ounce. It does not stand up on it's own. I didn't think to take a carabiner so I could hang it so just had to lay it out on the desk or dresser of a hotel room. Also just had a plain ziplock for my 3-1-1.

Always looking!

I love the look of this but I really need small pockets/pouches for toiletries otherwise it turns into a hot mess.

But Pam, I think this bag is crying out your name!

It looks nice, but it seems a bit big.
My toiletries are now split between two smaller flatter bags, and that way they slot into spaces in my case better than one big one would.

@Pam I love your electronics bag! Right now mine is a hot mess in a small Eagle Creek pouch. How much does your Bagsmart weigh?

I’m glad to see I’m not the only one with a slight obsession with zippered bags! I sorted through them all recently and put them all in one place. Big mistake. Let’s just say it’s a bit embarrassing how many I’ve accumulated over the years. But I just can’t stop buying them. That teal is lovely…

@ Wray…the same brand of cord organizer is 3.9 oz BUT I’m not completely sold on it as it will barely fit the small charger cube for my phone in the elastic pockets much less the bigger one for my iPad Mini. I need to do a complete trial pack on this!

@ Travel4fun, in the Fall I weighed every pouch and packing cube to come up with the lightest combo. It was very embarrassing because there were so many, lol.

I love the teal color as well and it’s an interesting design. Like others, I prefer to have a toiletry bag which hangs. I have this LL Bean kit (actually a version from over 20 years ago). My husband travels frequently and uses one of these all the time. He also uses it for the gym. I really like mine for land travel, but when I fly, I’ve decided I wanted the smallest kit that I could find that I could set my 3-1-1 ziplock into. I want all that stuff together. I probably only fly about 4 times a year for various reasons so I didn’t want to spend too much. I found this
GForce toiletry bag at TJ Maxx. I tried it out recently for a week trip to Florida. It’s a bit tight for everything I use but I wasn’t really trying since it was a driving trip.

I really enjoy reading about the products people use. Thanks everyone.

I love all this discussion. I have made or acquired so many bags I've lost count. For my round hairbrush I use a small drawstring bag that came with some eyeglass cases with a toilet paper roll inside. It protects the brush a bit and keeps it from getting tangled in my clothes.

FYI, I measured the bag and it's 10"L x 5 1/2"W x 5 1/2" H. Because it's structure is fairly soft it will squish down. I tried it in my 21" hardside spinner (Travelpro where both sides of the clamshell have a full zippered closure) and it fits. I'll probably put it in my personal item though. My plan is to put all my liquids in an actual freezer qt size ziplock and the same for all my meds which have been decanted to the tiny daily ziplocks. Once done with airport security it will all get dumped in the toiletry bag with the few items that don't go in either of those like my hairbrush, solid soap, etc.

Because we normally take Tauck tours where the hotels are very high end, I have counterspace but paradoxically don't have a hanging hook anywhere near the counter. I do have a knock off of the old LL Bean hanging bag that I use for RV trips. The shower rooms in most campgrounds do have hooks in the right place and often limited counterspace.
