Unfortunately you need the code. If it is a three digit code you can solve in about an hour. I had a four digit that took about a day. Every time I had a little down time I would crank in a few more codes until I hit it.
Hi Frank,
Thanks for your reply. What methodology did you use?
BWilcox
I used the "brute force method" - you try every combo 001, 002......
Oh My!!! :-)
You can shorten the process at bit by starting with 100 since most people would not start with 0xx.
Some locks let you reset them if they are not currently locked by swinging the curved metal part (the shank) around so that the part that normally goes down into the lock when it is locked is 180 degrees away from the lock point. Push down like you are locking it, but you aren't since the shank is not going into the lock hole. You then dial the combination you want, pull up on the shank and there you go, new combination set.
Note: I don't know if this works for the specific lock you have so proceed at your own risk, but it has worked for me on several different ones labeled TSA where I did not know the current combo.
You now know why I encode the number and engrave it on the lock.
Just buy a new one...
And then to understand what a waste this is go on YouTube and do a search on how to open these things......
They aren't protecting anything and twist ties are cheaper!
The lock is unlocked. Just trying to determine the code so it can be used again.
As Mark suggested above, if the lock is unlocked, you don't need the combination as you can set a new one. Have a look....
Thank you for the replies. I did buy some new ones today...but will still be trying Frank's solution!
Thanks,
