Longchamp Le Pliage Expandable Nylon tote Nordstrom sale

I just saw this tote bag is part of the Anniversary sale at Nordstrom. I have a six year old black medium size Le Pliage bag that I adore. I’m pretty hard on a bag and my current one has held up so well; it looks brand new still. I just sent it off and had small wear and tear on its corners repaired by Longchamp- they did so at no charge. Really impressed with that. I never have been one to use more than one bag, so durability and functionality are important to me. I can justify the cost that way, too!

This one looks like, with the expandable feature, possibly a great personal size item for trips. I just bought it in cognac as an early birthday gift to myself! ;)

I have the totes in many colors, and this bag in red. Love them all! I bought this expandable one a couple years ago after we bought a lot of stuff at the Christmas Markets;) You will love this bag! It goes on most of my trips now.

Love my Longchamps bags. I too have a few colors, for different seasons. I also love giving them as gifts. Will check out the sale now.

This is the perfect bag for me when I travel, especially when I do carry-on only. I can fold this tote/purse into my smaller under-the-seat carry-on. I put the items I usually would put into my purse into small zip-log bags; when on the plane, I take the zip-log bags out and empty them into the tote. Thanks for the notice about the sale!

I must be the only one who doesn't love this bag. I know SO many people love them - I bought one a few years ago at the airport and wanted to love it, but I find the strap SO uncomfortable to carry - esp if it's fuller or full of my purchases from traveling.

Not all Longchamp straps are the same, as I’ve learned the hard way. The length can vary. I’ve had great luck with this model and use it as my carry-on personal items. I expand it for the plane and then zip it down for every day use. It’s also useful in places that no longer give free bags (or any bag) with a purchase, because it can be expanded.

ChinaLake67, I bought an shoulder attachment for my medium bag bc I wanted to see if the handles would stay on my shoulder a bit better. I’ve been using it for about a month and so far so good. It gives a thicker pad - easier on the shoulder- for the straps to snap into and the brown color is really close as well. It’s on sale now, too. The only thing is it’s a bit harder to access the stuff inside, but that factor was not enough to dissuade me from keeping it.

I edited this post that included the Amazon link to the product because I just heard about prime day scams and I didn’t want to link anything that might cause anyone problems. If you are interested I found it by searching “shoulder strap pad” and many different companies offer these. I was unfamiliar with this accessory, and it has worked well for me.

Two notes, one I have heard that the bag being sold during the anniversary sale is made in China when all the other bags are made in France. If that’s important to you, check the bag before you buy it.

Two , I bought the shoulder strap attachment discussed above. The one I bought does not go around my straps. I am I am returning it and trying a different brand but keep that mind. You may have to do what I’m doing. I thought it sounded like a cool idea and it probably will be I find one that actually works on the bag.

Yes, many years ago on this forum the difference in the Pliage made in China vs the ones made in France was mentioned. If it's important to you, you may want to research what people have said and experienced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4R5sls_9ME
The most Longchamp discounts is 10% at CDG. I've never seen a sale here in France.

When not traveling, I carry their leather purses... and wish there were sales, sigh.

I have at least two longshot purses in my closet that were bought on sale in France. Both were bought in the summer sales, if that helps

@Bets - Thanks for that video link. I got a Le Pliage Large tote a few years ago (2022) so her comparisons were interesting. I got mine from Saks during a Black Friday sale thanks to some enablers on the forum, lol. The leather is soft, lining is white and surprisingly it says "Made in Tunisia"!! It is one of the Green line so maybe they are made other places...not sure.

This is what the Longchamp website says:
"Since it was founded, Longchamp has opened six production sites in the West of France (in Mayenne, Vendée, Maine-et-Loire and Orne).
Talented men and women have sustained the leather craftsmanship of this family business for over 70 years.
These sites employ over 800 people with rare expertise, spread across 25 workshops.
In addition to this factory network are two production sites abroad, in Tunisia and Mauritius. Finally, the brand also makes use of partner workshops in France, China, Romania and Morocco.
Regardless of the geographic location of the workshops, "made by Longchamp" ensures the consistent manufacturing of products that all meet the same quality standards.
Moreover, Longchamp is transparent about where its designs are assembled, displaying the information on the labels inside its bags.
"

@Carol - Good to know about your experience with the strap holder. I was going to order one as MustLoveDogs had mentioned it before, just hadn't gotten around to it. My bag is light teal with light teal straps so I was undecided about the color to order since I know it will not be able to match.

I love the light weight of this bag and that I can fold it up into my suitcase if I am using a day pack instead. I have gotten a 2nd organizer which I like better than the felt one I started with. I hate that it won't stay on my elderly shoulders, lol.

On sale!
Then I’m running over to the two stores that sell Longchamp where I live to see if the leather purses are reduced. They weren’t on sale at our Galeries Lafayette.
Sales end Tuesday night.

Very interesting info, Pam. We’d assume that a respectable brand would have standards to be followed no matter where they are made.

The shoulder strap attachment company I bought from (on Amazon) was jiesinlov. It fits the two straps really well so far and the brown color is almost a perfect match. My bag is about 6 years old, though, so if the straps are now thicker, it could be a problem. Hope this helps if anyone is interested.

So I bought my on sale purses at Longchamp at their stores in Paris. Hope that helps

Interesting video and info about the made in China vs France bag. I didn’t take note nor did any sort of research before of where my first one was made, but it has a black interior, so I am guessing France maybe. I hope this one holds up as well. I found Longchamp’s customer service support to be awesome with the free corner repair, so if I have issues hopefully they’ll be as supportive. The sale price was as high as I would ever go for a bag, and the functionality I think will be what I am looking for, so I am not going to sweat the bag’s production location right now. Fingers crossed, anyway!

The tag inside the bag will show where it was made.

Saw it now Pam, thanks. Seems both my old one and now new one were made in China. I bought my old one at Saks Fifth Avenue. My 6 year old bag has held up so well and looks great. If this new one matches it in terms of durability I will be a happy camper. I actually like the lighter inside of the new one, too, just for a different look and to maybe make it easier to see things. Maybe if I ever get a chance to compare in person a MIF one, I could see if the difference(s) were enough to only choose that production location, but I am pleased with these so far.
