lightweight men's slacks hack/trick

I'm on team natural fiber but the team synthetics people have a point about cotton's downside.

So, when something that can please almost everyone comes along, I think it is worth mentioning:

Banana Republic has something called 'slim fit linen blend five pocket pant' and the description details warn that it runs small. I don't like the tapered cuff look that has been popular among non-old men the last year or two, so here's the trick:
buy a longer length and hem them -- you end up with a very nice looking pair of slacks with a non-constricting rise.

Half linen and half poly with a pinch of spandex, such that it folds down to half the packing size of equivalent cotton. A little shocking how compact actually, without feeling too gossamer or plastic-y.

Generous belt loops, coin-catch pocket inside right front in addition to jeans-style fifth pocket, and deeper than Columbia (why does Columbia have such shallow pockets?) In dark colors it could pass for dinner or evening activities.

If you're not in a rush and sign up for their spam, you can find most of BR's stuff at 70% off every month or two.

And see, even as a person in his early 50s I really prefer the slim/tapered fit (I'm also a competitive cyclist so that tracks, right?). So thank you for this tip!

A search of BR website indicates these trousers are no longer available.

Maybe check again in a few weeks?

What else have people found have the best of both synthetics and natural fibers?

I will keep my eyes open for those pants to reappear. I have always liked the BR Traveller Pants but they are usually 50-60% cotton so not exactly quick dry but I can get 4-5 days wear out of a pair before they need washing.

The only synthetic fabrics I have found with a mix of quick dry abilities with the breathability of cotton or linen are the Prana zion fabric styles and the Bluffworks Ascender chinos. I have tried literally dozens of other pants and they all feel like wearing a plastic bag on hot summer days.

I was just saved by my BR synthetic travel pants, the ones that allegedly have volcanic ash mixed into them. Torrential downpour in NYC, hung them in my friend's shower while we dined and voila, nearly dry for my train ride home. Stylish too, and are warm when it's cold and cold when it's warm. Good purchase, I think they are now in the outlet as well.
