Let's Play "Help Find the Right Luggage"

I have been asked by someone to help them find a piece of luggage that will fit the sizers of the airlines they are flying. (US airline/Ryanair/Icelandair.)

To meet these requirements the bag must be:

1) No bigger than 55 x 35 x 20 cm. (Yes, Ryanair and Icelandair allow the middle dimension to be 40cm but most US airlines limit it to 35cm.)

2) Be hardsided but this is negotiable.

3) Spinner (Yes, I know, you non-wheeled people are muttering under your breath. But play along.)

4) Not too heavy

Any bag more than than 55 x 35 x 20 is not good because it must fit in the sizer and not just be eyeballed by a gate agent. (Saying they should pack lighter is not going to work.)

(I've explained to this person that weight is also an issue but he/she/they/them/it wants to first think about size.)

So fellow forum members....any suggestions?

I have an older (and prettier, and purchased on clearance) version of the Eagle Creek International Carry-On, and I love it.

It's 2-wheeled though--not a spinner--which probably helps with having wheels and meeting the size limits. Also, it's not hard-sided. So, it doesn't meet all the criteria, but I've never had an issue with the size, and it fits more than my old Samsonite "underseater" that I used to use.

**Note that I HAVE just slightly exceeded the weight limit on one occasion, with an airline that counts the weight of both the carryon and the personal item together.

Does it need to be available in the US or are you shopping in Europe?

Take a look at IT bags. I've been using a soft side IT spinner I found at TJ Maxx a few years ago 55 x 35.5 x 20 and under 5 lbs.

The person buying the bag is in the US of A.

Funnily enought, if they were in the UK, Amazon UK has numerous bags that fit this criteria.

I would buy one and ship it to them but shipping has gotten so expensive. As an example, a few weeks ago I had to send a backpack that measured approximately 340 x 30 x 20 squished down to a lot maller and weighed under 2 kg. it's value was $40. It cost over 42 GBP to ship it including duty paid to the US (even though I had brought it from the US.)

The only reason I didn't leave it and buy a new one is that fact that the bag wasnt available in the US due to its size. And I wanted to keep the backpack.

I love my Lipault Plume Cabin Bag. Its so light & manageable. It fits anywhere and looks sharp. I find it packs best for me without packing cubes. I’ve used it for weeks long international trips for 4 or 5 years now so it’s been through things & it still looks new. Airline measurements here.
