Laundry Softener Sheets

Not packing related, but I learned about laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets here.

I've tested the Tru-Earth unscented laundry sheets and fabric softener sheets per directions to put both in the wash together and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Question:

I'm converting over to the sheets, but still have liquid detergent to use up.

How do the fabric softener sheets perform when added to a wash load with liquid detergent?
I could try it out and report back, but maybe someone already has experience with this.

Also, for those who hand-wash during travel, do you use fabric softener? Like fill the sink with fresh water after washing and rinsing, add some fabric softener, swish and rinse again?

Thanks.

I use those laundry soap sheets but I didn’t even realize they have softener ones. I never use fabric softener whether at home or traveling. Wool dryer balls at home and nothing when on the road. Usually hanging to dry anyway.

I've used the laundry sheets for years while travelling, (both in machines and hand washes)and am pleased with them. I also don't bother with fabric softener at home, so see no reason to take them on vacation. One less thing to pack and fuss with. Save the liquid stuff for home use.

I don’t use fabric softener at home except on the rare occasion. A box easily lasts me a couple of years.

I used to bring the Earth Breeze detergent that looks like dryer sheets to wash our clothes in the sink. Now that it’s only solo travel, I just use the hotel shampoo to wash my items in the sink but still throw in a few detergent sheets in case I don’t like the fragrance of the shampoo.

I don't use fabric softener. I limit the use of chemicals and have been very happy with wool balls. I used to use tennis that lost their "bounce"

I’ve been using the laundry sheets when we travel for handwashing the last couple of years. It packs so much easier than a liquid. I don’t use softener.

I have been using the Tru Earth sheets for years at home and traveling and I also didn’t realize they also have dryer sheets. I’m in Brisbane doing a load of laundry right now. It’s a small load to start off a 10 day tour tomorrow with all clean clothes. I always use a half a sheet, but this time I cut a half in half. I also use strips from a sheet if I need to sink wash. I use a couple of strips for that.

They aren't dryer sheets. They go into the washing machine at the same time as the detergent sheet.

It seems like you have two questions: one about home use and one about travel.

For home use, I only use Earth Breeze laundry sheets in the washer and wool balls in the dryer. I gave up dryer sheets years ago because of the chemicals.

When I travel, I have a small bottle of liquid wash that RS sells on the website (goes in my 3-1-1 bag) and use that when sink washing. There's no dryer so I can't use dryer balls in the hotel room, lol!

When traveling and using the laundromat, I'll either bring detergent sheets from home or use the powdered stuff from the location. If they have a dryer sheet available for purchase there, I'll use it.

We're on the Scandinavia tour this summer and the information states there's not a lot of laundry options on this tour, so I'm planning to do sink laundry, and of course being strategic with my packing.

I’m currently in Italy and brought Forever New laundry powder for bigger items. It was recommended on the forum and I brought a fraction of the 4 ounce bottle I bought on my last 2 trips. It works great for sink washing. I do undies in the shower with what shower gel the hotel offers but shirts/tops I sink wash and I never use fabric softener. One thing you do not need when traveling I’d say.

When we rent an apartment, we take Tide pods (because that's what we use at home) in a Ziploc, double bagged in case of breakage and clothes dryer softener sheets which we tear in half.

I have not used dryer sheets or fabric softener in over 25 years. At home I use vinegar as it helps with the detergent but also softens without all the chemicals. I especially like this method for towels as they do not get stiff over time like they do with fabric softener.

. The only time I have done laundry while traveling is when we did a camper van. I used the laundry detergent sheets and nothing else.
