Laundry for River Cruises

Besides paying a ridiculous fee to have the cruise wash our cloths, are there any land based services that will do our laundry? Seems like there should be a service that takes our dirty cloths in one town and drops it off clean in the next.

If you think the cruise line charges too much, you probably won't like the delivery fee for such a service.

Drop it off where?

I think one advantage of a cruise is that you don't need to drag your luggage off/on various vehicles, so take a big suitcase and you won't need a laundry service.

We generally pack on a 6 or 7 day cycle. On a two week river cruise we packed our dirty laundry into a carry-on backpack. Took it with us when we went on our morning city tour. Asked the guide where was there a self laundry. He reply that we would be walking by one in about an hour or so. Many self laundries will have a wash and fold option. Left the laundry, ended the tour around noon, had lunch, spent time doing some addition sightseeing. circled by the laundry around four or so, picked up our clean clothes, and made it back to the ship. Worked fine. We frequently use the wash and fold option at other times also.

Check with your cruise line. On Uniworld, for example, most ships have a self-serve guest laundry on board. And after your first cruise with them, you get a free bag of laundry per person, which has always gotten us through the cruise and our post-cruise activities.

The sinks are small and space to hang anything up to dry is very limited. The river cruise rooms are about half of what you find on a cruise ship. Doing laundry on a river cruise is challenging.
