Keeping rolled clothes rolled

I've always rolled our clothes when packing a suitcase but my dear, sweet husband always managed to unroll everything when he rummaged through the suitcase. My friend came up with the perfect solution. I went to the dollar store and bought fabic covered rubberbands.that are used for pony tails. Now I just slip a band on each end of our rolled up clothes. Everything stays rolled up

Our approached is to put the rolled clothes in large plastic zip lock bags. Everything stays together and easily unpack quickly if needed. You can get zip lock bags as large as 2.5 gallon.

I roll my clothes and then put them in packing cubes. I've never had trouble with them coming unrolled. I am wondering if your solution would leave a wrinkle where the band was?

I like the band solution because each rolled garment can then be tucked into a space where it fits or even curved around to fit in a spot.

If the band solution works without wrinkling where the bands are, that's great. I prefer to keep rolled items in either packing cubes or zipped plastic bags. If I need to stuff odd corners or spaces, that's usually where the socks and underwear go. I gave up on DH years ago, when it comes to packing. He insists on doing it his way- and ends up having to iron. A lot. While I sit back with a glass of wine and read our guidebook.

CJean, you go girl! I stopped dealing with my husband's packing two husbands back -- when he forgot a swimsuit for a Hawai'i vacation and I was so glad his suitcase was his responsibility.

Wouldn't dream of packing my husbands' suitcase! What he does with his stuff is up to him. I don't want him packing mine either.

I roll and then put it all in packing cubes !!packing cubes are a lifesaver , i have one for undies/socks, one for tops, one for bottoms etc

Large Ziplock-style bags keep clothes more secure and less prone to wrinkle, at least for me. The Storage section of some stores sell these bags as an accessory for closets or under-the-bed. Fold two or three items around each other and slide into the bag. When full, compress the bag to exhaust the air and zip shut. One note of caution: Some stores sell similar storage bags which need a vacuum, obviously not suitable for travel.

I, too, would be afraid of wrinkles. I roll in packing cubes. I never let my husband near my suitcase and I don't go near his. This works out well. I do watch him pack because I love the process and want to make sure he doesn't forget something major...as that has happened.

I'm feeling very antiquated! I've been married for almost 30 years.....I have always and still do pack for my husband, including picking his clothes out (for him to take - not day to day:). No way would I trust him to pack his clothes for himself. He's brilliant mind you, just not when it comes to things like that! We do laundry together. I do the washing / rinsing and he does the wringing.

Jill, it will be 50 this summer. I do all the packing. She choices her stuff and places it on the bed. I put it in the bags. As an old engineer I have a very good eye for how space is utilized. PS -- I also do some of the kitchen cupboards.

Jill I do a mix of both-I pick out the clothes I want my husband to pack in HIS own suitcase. We go shopping together to pick out some new items for him to wear on the trip (good excuse to get some new duds) and then he does the rest. I would seriously freak out if my husband was rummaging through my well thought out, organized system in my suitcase. I use the roll method in packing cubes, that I swear by to get as much bang for my buck using a 20 inch carry on, and husband does not (boy was that a heated discussion). I don't touch his suitcase on the trip and he does not touch mine. I DO carry all the toiletries in my wonderful flat toiletry case because he has two items (shave cream and deodorant) and I have about 5 and we share toothpaste.

BJS-Glad you found a working solution for cheap as long as he does not take the hair tie off to see if that is what he was looking for.

Frank - my husband is an engineer also:). He is welcome to pack what I pick out, and he does take care of his own things / bag after we start the trip (although I do roll his clothes:).

Letizia - I wouldn't want my husband rummaging through my stuff either! We also share a toiletries kit, but he usually carries it. He has a stronger back:)

Everyone in my family has always packed their own bag for a trip starting at high school age -- you don't pack it you do without it.

Wouldn't have it any other way. :-)

I pick out the clothes for both of us, though he will tell me if he doesn't like my choices. He says I always look so nice & pretty and he needs to at least LOOK like he deserves me....lol.
I don't mind, I actually enjoy it. I also pack for both of us, preferring to roll our clothes & use packing cubes. DH always credits me with how organized I am, telling me our vacations are only successful because of all my planning. I'm sure they would turn out just fine if I let him do the planning & packing but I enjoy it, helps build the excitement!!

I would NEVER pack for my hubby.. if I did I am sure he'd decide I forgot something he couldn't live without.. this way hes responsible for his own choices..

He packs his bag.. I pack mine..
