I thought that I was doing the smart thing by checking the weather of my destination. But I only looked at the temperature not the humidity! I admit that I am a west coast girl and have very little experience with humidity. I am in London right now and regret my clothing choices. The temperatures are between 65 an 70. So I thought light cardigan, long pants and long sleeved shirts. NOPE! It is soooo hot. Don't do what I did, check the humidity!
The humid warmth of the past few days was unusual - we had it in Paris and London is 200 miles away, so the "air masses" tend to be similar even if the actual weather is not. From today onwards, you'll be thankful for the cardigan!
Yes, it was unusually humid the last few days, it's not normally like that, I walked the dogs in their usual woodland on Monday and I was sweating far more than I expected for the time of year, today was completely different. Expect much less humidity from now on.
One easy answer: buy short sleeved souvenir t-shirts. I have an assortment of jackets and sweatshirts that I had to buy because I thought it was 90 degrees everywhere in the summer and not cold in Sept.
Good reminder! Born and raised here in the PNW, I do not do well in humidity. When we were stationed in the south, that about killed me, lol. Maybe that is why I like to travel in the winter;)
The humidity in London can bite during the winter, too. A friend traveled to London in February a few years ago, and I warned her about the humidity and how it can be really cold with sunshine and yet it is 50 or so degrees. Like most people, she monitored temps before her trip and seeing daily highs in the 50s, she did not pack a cold weather coat, opted to pack lighter with sweaters - and she confessed she was freezing the entire stay.
humidity AKA rain/mist/drizzle/
as in the phrase "the humidity is chucking it down" 😁😁
When you grow up in NYC, you always look at humidity specifically the dew points! Well, you now have a great excuse to go shopping for light weight apparel!
My proportion of polyester type fabrics to cotton fabrics wasn’t right during my recent trip to Italy, either. I wore my lightweight cotton dress and white eyelet top much more than I planned because of the stickiness of the humidity. Many days were a two-shower day, especially after all of the walking. I would switch to the polyester dress or the two other outfits for the evenings.
I hate humidity too.
Last trip to Italy in very early September that year, I had 43 showers in 15 days.😳
I’m not exaggerating.
I could not wait to get indoors everywhere we went…I was very uncomfortable.
I’m going there later in Fall this trip and hope it will be drier!
Knowing my luck, I’ll need to buy warmer clothes than I’m packing!
At least there are many shops to choose from in the UK for inexpensive clothing.
