A universal truth is buy cheap, buy twice.
I know. My first cheap hardshell barely $40 and destroyed in two trips carrying about 20 pounds of stuff. I'm on my second, this one was $63, but I just wanted an inexpensive hardshell to serve as nothing more than a shipping container for bringing home the things purchased along the way.

But im dumb. In the second video, it's stated that "carry-on" sized bags should cost $100-$300. I wish they'd elaborated on that more. Why? When looking at a $60 vs $300 bag I'm just looking at plastic shells and product made in low wage countries. It's not quite the same as when looking at a nylon and vinyl messenger bag whipped up in short order vs a vegetable tanned leather hand stitched with waxed linen thread bag. With the Bellroy bag the one upside is the ability to repair your own bag.

When I was backpacking and buying gear from cottage type makers it was easy to understand the price points compared to the multinational corporate producers.

I had a RyanAir flight yesterday, and my $130 bag was a little large, so I went to the local Asian market and purchased one that conforms with a few mm to spare. Hard shell spinner set me back 11.000ft ($30). Was 12.000 but the sales lady gave me a discount cause I was nice. I suspect it will last 10 years; but I doubt that I will.
