Hard water hair treatment for London trip

Just thought I would share a product I found today for an upcoming trip and see if anyone has used it. Last summer the hard water in London did a real number on my mature and colored hair, so I thought I would maybe try to take something over this year to help keep it from feeling like the end of a broomstick. I was in CVS today and saw these packets. I bought a few to take with us. I’m pretty low maintenance and don’t really put a ton of time and effort into how I look, so you must know my hair felt (and therefore looked lol) pretty wild bc of the way the hard water affected it, so much so that I thought maybe I would try to do something to help with it this go around. Hope sharing helps others whose hair had the “finger in the light socket” look while there ;)

Here’s a link to the product. I bought singular packs at CVS

Interesting, thanks for posting, MLD. I’m spending over 2 weeks in London in Feb-March next year. And $11 ish isn’t such a big investment either.

I don't really care that much about my hair, but I dislike frizz. I typically don't have a problem with it, but boy did my hair hate Belgium and Northern, France. I had a bit of coconut scented "hair tonic" that I get at Trader Joe's. I put it on before I dry my hair, and it worked like a charm, and I decided I would never travel without it. A bonus is that about a pea sized amount does it for my shoulder length, somewhat thick hair, so I can just bring a tiny container of it.

Very interesting. I live in London and the hard water is horrible for my middle-aged skin and coloured hair, and I’m forever trying to treat and protect it. I’d be very interested to hear whether this works for you. At the bottom of the page in the link there’s a picture of a shampoo, too.

I’ll be sure to report back how it does. Didn’t see the shampoo- thanks Amanda

I bought a pack of a dozen of these hard water treatments, as we have hard water where I live in Minnesota. The result? Meh... I believe that they helped, but I stopped using them. I'd have to use one every time I shampoo, and that wasn't happening. But thank you for the info about the hard water in London! We've been there before, and I don't remember the effect the water had on my hair. We are returning in June 2025, so I will bring the leftover packets with!

Thanks, I might give it ago. However it takes a hour by train to reach London from Reading, so I must be really sure it is worth my time and money.

The make special shampoo for colored and treated hair. My wife uses it all the time.

I never found the water in London to be any problem.

David, I am mindful of the words in the Rod Stewart song, “ Some guys have all the luck” :)

I use a special shampoo for colored hair, too. Actually it was what I took with me last summer, but the water did a number on my hair regardless. My adult son, who tends to have oily skin, and uses a clarifying face wash, really had an issue with it, too. His skin was more oily the whole time there, while my hair was so dry and coarse. I’m hoping these products help mitigate the issue. Fingers crossed!

This coversation makes me think. I wonder if I could use shampoo and conditioner bars, which are too drying, if I packed a handful of these conditioner packets. Has anyone tried this?
