GPS tracking on luggage or backpacks

Has anyone here tried using a GPS tracking device in their luggage or backpacks when out traveling. For you know in case of loss or theft ?

A couple on my (wonderful!) recent Adriatic Tour had their luggage delayed in Copenhagen. They had a gps device on the bags. I think it was comforting for them to know where they were, but it didn't get them sent along any sooner.

Just one more problem you don't have if you carry on.

I usually put a Tile:

in my bag. It's not as powerful as a GPS but it's a lot cheaper, and surprisingly useful. I checked for it once (when I was having a problem I won't get into describing here), and sitting on the airplane, was able to detect the bag via bluetooth in the cargo hold of the plane. This was reassuring. However, given the limited range of bluetooth, not detecting the bag would not have necessarily meant that the bag was NOT there, so this system isn't perfect. If your bag is completely separated from you, it is sometimes still possible to find out some information, as more and more people have the Tile app on their phones and can anonymously "help" you locate it.

Not to mention the number of times this technology has helped me find my keys :)
