For Ladies Who Pack Leggings

Costco sells my favorite yoga tights ("Tuff Athletics" brand) for about $17. They are good quality, opaque, wash great, come in many colors, and are nicer than Lululemon pants---because I get the keep the $75 difference in price! They fit true to size and don't sag.

I treated myself to a new pair for my upcoming trip to London to wear as leggings. Tuff has added a flat drawstring and a very discrete zippered pocket at the waistband. It is large enough for a credit card and some cash and will be a great place to hide money belt type items, but just a tad too small for a passport. Believe me, no pick-pocketer is going to access my leggings!

Ellen -

Those are fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing. I don't belong to Costco but I am going to see where I can buy these since I think these would work well in my every day life - especially in the winter!

Happy Travels!

I don't know. Remember a poster last year reporting that she had money taken from her bra. They can be quick.

Those leggings are great! Under a tunic or longer top, perfect! Also, yes you can tuck some bills and a credit card in the pocket. As far as I remember, everywhere we go to Europe, with the exception of a few places, our hotel keeps our passport while we are there. If someone grabs something out of my bra, or my waistband, then they had to go digging for it. Not quite the same as a open purse or sagging pocket! Good tip, Ellen.ninwilo look for these pants next trip to costco..

Hey, Margaret! I'm in TN too, but my Costco is in Georgia . . .

Anyway, get to a Costco to eyeball the leggings to see if they will work for you. They bunch up at the ankles on me.

Are they at the store or did you need to order them online. The only color online is Grey, did you purchase a different color? Thanks for the heads up..I love leggings to wear on the airplane.

Here is my secret Costco clothing strategy: I order several colors and sizes on Costco.com and then return the ones that I don't want to the store. Saves me a trip to the store.

Sometimes I can't find the size or color I want in the store; sometimes the store has more variety. This time, online had more colors than in store, so I ordered there.

I am wavering a little on the leggings for the plane. Will I get hot? Will I look like I wish I were 20? (Well, sometimes I do.) Are they age appropriate for a 50 y/o woman, outside of yoga studio, even if my top covers my bum?

Advice?

Ellen, if you are comfortable in leggings you should wear them and not worry about what others think. However, if they ride up, bother you, are hot or provide you any discomfort, then they might not be for you. Try wearing them around town and see how comfortable you are out in public running errands--maybe that will help you make up your mind.

Leggings reminds me of black stretch pants that were oh so popular years ago. Like all clothing, some can wear them and look great, while others...

Sadly, Bruce, you are correct -- and for some of us the black stretch pants DID look good years ago but now ... we look for comfort and wear long tunics to hide what the years have added.

And yes, I DO pack leggings, especially for winter warmth.

I was just at my local Costco store. They had a good supply of every available color, except black. I was surprised they came in an all black version.

Yes, you can wear leggings, age doesn't count. If you are covering your body from mid thigh up. I, personally, wear them with longer tunics. I just would not wear them with tunic shorter than mid thigh (think mini skirt, fingers can touch the hem). I don't feel leggings are just for the young or super thin as long as you wear a top that provides coverage.

Someone above mentioned looking for tall leggings. I recommend Athleta leggings-- they are not $17 but almost all of their styles come in tall. They run sales a few times per year (Memorial Day and Labor Day and maybe others) and do have pretty good discounts on sale/clearence. My favorites are the fleece lined ones for fall/winter. So from one tall woman to another-- I hope that helps!

You can wear leggings at ANY age or weight. Make sure they are True leggings and not the sheer kind that show flesh or white underwear when you bend over. I like a Tunic over the leggings. I too worried about getting too hot with them on. I did not have a problem last time, as long as I can take my shoes off I am ok. Hot feet are worse than hot legs.

My Costco had like 10 pairs of XS left and they looked like they would fit a 12 year old girl. Super duper tiny. The XL is a size 12, too small for me.

Ellen,
I made it to Costco this afternoon, but the leggins are way tooooo short for me. I held them up, and they came to slightly below my knee. But, I am very tall. But, they did look nice (good quality) for ladies who are not tall.

Courtney, I did check out your recommendation and will watch for sales. Thanks.
