Favorite travel tee

As I have had to replace my everyday t-shirts over the years my tees of choice have become the Lands End "shaped layering" tees. I have scoop-neck, v-neck, crewneck, short-sleeved, long-sleeved, turtleneck, mostly in black, white and gray, but a couple of colors too. Fabrication is 56% cotton/38% rayon modal/6% Lycra® spandex. They are thin but not see-thru. Great for warm weather; easy to layer without bulk when it's chilly. If I need new tees I wait for sales.

Recently while traveling I spilled coffee down the front of my white v-neck. When I took it off about an hour later I grabbed a bar of soap and washed the coffee stain in cold water, gently wrung it out and threw it over the shower rod. A few hours later - dry shirt, no stains. I put it on again the next morning and the few wrinkles smoothed out on their own. Easy care makes it great for travel. They roll up pretty small too.

What's your favorite travel tee?

<> ones that fit. :-( But then I am not really a tee person. I have an upcoming trip, and I am not sure there will be a tee in the luggage. I've sewn poly tops that wash and wear like rags and keep looking good for city travel. A luxury after 5 years of 'outdoorsy' travel and a lot of beige L-S shirts.

For cooler weather trips, a very soft and oh so comfortable merino wool t-shirt works for me. Easy care...hand wash and dries quickly. Stink factor very low compared to plastic attire.

Hi Jaye, I like Lands End too. I bought the long-sleeved layering tees in grey and white for my fall trip. They dry quickly and look nice with a fleece or sweater. I also like the Wearever tops from JJill.

Old Navy has great layering clothes. Basic styles, nothing faddish. I get all my tanks, tees and long sleeves for layering there all in basic colors. I also stick to Black, white and grey and throw in some beige. I can grab the tank I like in 4 different colors for $9.99 each and Done. Lands End is too expensive for me and the fabric too thick and bulky. I like a more feminine look.

I am with Bruce--my go-to Ts are merino wool no matter the temperature. I wear them year round in middle Tennessee--short-sleeved for summer (and no, they are not hot as they regulate your body temperature and will not stink no matter how much you sweat) and both short (with a merino cardigan) and long-sleeved in the winter. icebreaker and Ibex are my favorite for all things merino wool. They are expensive, but I have some that I have worn for 6 years (and I wear them a lot) and they still look brand new. Hand washing and air drying merino wool is best so perfect for travel (at home, I use the "hand wash" cycle on my machine).

I have about 10 lands end supima cotton t shirts - the more loose fit. I love them, and have taken them to europe many times. They hand wash and hand dry great! I was just looking to see if they have anything similar for men, and they really don't. Pretty much all cotton tshirts.

i love the ibex OD tee. they are a bit pricey but, being merino, you can wear them several times without needing to wash - the key is to let them air out in between wears. they can be found on sale for ~$40. i picked up some icebreaker tees from sierra outpost for ~$20 a while ago but they don't fit me well and the ibex wool is a bit smoother and softer.

sounds gross, but basically the bacteria is what makes sweat smell, and since merino is naturally anti-bacterial, if you give it time, the bacteria dies. plus they dry super fast when you do wash them. when i was in europe this past spring, it was unseasonably warm and i got along just fine with my 2 merino tees.

For cotton tees, my go-to are from Tommy Bahama's Relax collection.
I found them at one of their outlet stores, they had stacks of them, different colors, v-neck going for half-off. I believe I paid $15 for them, they had a sale going on. The closest I found on their website was, these; like I said, I got them at the outlet and ended up returning to pick up 4 more.

For wool, Ibex OD long-sleeve t-shirts. Sharp looking and soft. I hiked all over Cinque Terre with one in January, got back into into Florence and made my reservation at a nice restaurant wearing the same shirt. Nobody batted an eye as I looked stylish and not like I had just got off the trail. Wool also prevents smelly body oder, a nice plus after a day of hiking around. Doesn't look like they make it anymore, this is the closest I found, about the same price too. Spendy yes, but, for a winter or, cool weather trip, get at least one.

I love that LE Tee as well! I like to take 2 LE cardies as well, black and a color or print. I like to have the matching color Tee, plus black and white. In April when I traveled I had the cobalt sweater/tee in kind of a twin set and that worked really well with the black twin set too!

A couple of years Cabelas had a contract with Icebreaker for Merino wool tees. I got 2 of them and really like them as well BUT I noticed last week that one seems to have a moth hole in it. Did not even think about that, darn it. They no longer carry that brand but they sure do hand wash well and dry even quicker than the LE tees.

Whatever you do, do not try to travel with the Lands End athletic tees that are wick away. I can only get one wearing out of them because they smell SO bad after just one time. I took one last fall and it smelled even when I did not! I also could not get the stink out just hand washing - even rubbing soap directly on to the pits. I finally got it smelling clean when I got home and put it thru the washer! Horrible. Also extremely annoying because the fabric is so soft!
