Favorite international Carryon roller??

In need of a roller bag/rolling backpack (not a spinner) to fit international carryon sizes. I have a
Motherlode jr. backpack which I love but want an alternative with wheels to use when I’m not feeling up to carrying a pack everyday as
I’m aging 😉. Want lightweight and max packing room. What are your recommendations? Thanks in advance!

I think you need to be more specific about "international carryon sizes."

I am very happy with the RS Rolling Carry-On. I’ve used it on several trips and tours. https://store.ricksteves.com/shop/p/rolling-carry-on

When the extension handle quit retracting after six trips, it was covered under RS warranty which I appreciated, YMMV. Although the weight is listed at 6.5 lbs, when I removed the replacement from the shipping box and weighted it, the suitcase actually weighed 5.5lbs according to my handy dandy luggage scale.

Kathryn and all,
I saw the Riga rolling carry-on at the Phoenix Travel Show. I was not impressed. It looked and felt heavy (7.2#) and smaller although the Rolling Carry-On is 1/2” narrower. Front pockets held less than RC-O.

Kathryn, RS also makes a smaller rolling carryon that has backpack straps as well. It’s a 20” and I’ve been tempted but I would like to see it before ordering. It’s only a 32 liter capacity vs the bag mentioned which is 40 liters. I have a small 19 1/2 bag that is only 4lb 3 ounces but I’m wondering how long it will last and I’m keeping my eye open for smaller and lighter bags.

Have you by chance seen it Kathy/Horsewoffie?

I am been pleased with the Rick Steves two wheeler bag.

I'll add my vote for the Rick roll-aboard. I love it and it is the 2nd one I've had. The first lasted for years and had many happy trips over the pond to the UK and Europe. I will also add, take a look at the Euro bag which fits under the seat in front of you. Those 2 are my perfect combo for any trip. I've gone on trips up to 4 weeks with just those two. I put all my jewelry, meds, travel folder, etc. in the Euro bag in case they decide to gate check roll-aboards. Some folks don't like the wide opening of the Euro bag because they fear losing something when they unzip, but I just put my travel pillow or reservation folder in the front and the prevents any spills.

Whoops. Just noticed you don't want a spinner so I deleted most of my post. But I still love my Lipault. It's very light, isn't over engineered so has great packing space, is easy to clean, and looks sharp. They have non-spinner versions so here's the website. Lipault.

I would be sure to check the weight of the bag when empty before buying. Good luck!

I'm not a fan of the rolling backpack, but here is on that fits your brief:

This should have a very good, adjustable harness, and it's light at under 5.5lbs. Some folks don't like the mono-pole handle, but I've had a similar bag for 9 years and lived out of it for 7 months. Never had a problem with it. Very sturdy bag.

I bought a pair of RS rollers in case I ever get to the point I'm no longer in good enough nick to carry the back-door bag. However, they are double the weight of the backpack and must still be hoist into the overhead and carried (one-handed) up ans down stairs, not to mention the shoulder strain from wheeling them about (and 2-wheelers are rather awkward on narrow plane/train/bus aisles). Also, in my experience a wheeled bag tends to be more likely to get gate-checked on crowded flights than the same-size backpack.

So I'm hoping the 30 quid each I spent on the Bay for those rollers will end up as insurance I never need to use them 😄
