Do liquid prescription medications has to go in the 3-1-1 quart bag?

I believe I can put them in their own baggie and that it is exempt from the 3-1-1 bag. I'm pretty sure this is accurate, but hoping someone will confirm. (All info from the pharmacy is on the bottle).

That is correct - but they do need to be in a 3-1-1 type bag of their own. Or if they all fit together, they CAN all go in the one bag. Your choice. They do all have to be presented to security checks.

While it might not be absolutely necessary, having the data sheet that comes with the prescription showing it is for you is a good idea if anyone questions it. It's usually just one sheet of paper so it's not that much extra to carry.

I have gone through with one 3-1-1 (toiletries) & one 3-1-1 (medicine) bag. I print a list from my doctor's web site listing any medications I am taking. This helps for TSA personal or if I lose any of medication, I have the dosage & name on separate piece of paper (copies made & stuck into a back up bag).

Thanks,

Mary

I am a Type 1 diabetic and regularly take liquid glucose in plastic bottles (similar in size to soda bottles) through airport security. They are labeled by a pharmacy as a prescription medication and I also carry a letter from my MD (but have never, not in 20 years, needed it). My bottles are put in a separate machine and because they are viscose, they often trigger an alarm. Then they have to be opened, litmus paper (or similar) is used to detect any chemical agents, and then I am on my way. That's for US and most of Europe anyway. Australia had no interest in testing anything. In Greece, they asked me to drink out of the bottle. In Croatia, they asked me to describe the use of the medication and checked it against what was on the prescription label. I do put my glucose and my insulin (also liquid) in a separate baggie for ease of pulling it out of my luggage. Good luck and give yourself extra time to clear security. You will have no problems.

I am close to leaving, in about 2 weeks! My "to do" list is dwindling, and I'm praying the heatwave will be over or at least lessened. I'm starting to get the feeling of panic and worry that I'm forgetting something. Next week I will be taking my list and pretending that I am really packing to have a "final list".

The bottle that I am taking is Tussionex Pinetic (a prescription cough medicine). It is labled with my name on it, that the pharmacy puts on it. Doesn't it just figure I have a cough??? Maybe I can get it to go away before then. I'm not sick, it's just drainage...been taking a expectorant the last few days that seems to be helping, but I want to keep the strong stuff for my trip (it stops that cough right away).

Do I really need a doctor's letter, too? If so, I will call and ask for one while I still have time. What a hassle.

Lulu, get the letter -- you probably won't need it, but if you don't have it you WILL worry. And you don't need more things to worry about.
