Delta now allows free checked wine from CA

According to this article, Delta is now allowing passengers at five airports in California to check wine for free, up to one full case. The article mentioned that Alaska and Southwest already do that, and so now you have another option.

There are a few caveats, of course, the main one being that you must be a Delta SkyMiles member, but I would think that most travelers on this forum who fly Delta are members. You can read the details in the article.

It makes me want to take a trip to wine country and bring home some California wine. 🍷🧳

That’s good as long as what happened to me some years ago doesn’t happen to you. No, not a breakage, the case of wine was well packed, but there were weather problems at the O’Hare connection, plane got out on tarmac but had to return to gate, cancelled, nothing else back to DCA until the next morning, so had to collect my checked case of wine at baggage claim, lug it as well as my other baggage on a shuttle bus to a hotel somewhere near the airport, then lug it back at the crack of dawn to check it again for the new flight. By the time I got it home I was definitely ready to open the first bottle.

Oh wow, Slate. Yeah, I think I would have probably drunk the entire bottle after that experience! 😂😂😂

StellaB, that would definitely be a bit of a shock. I'm not a big fan of lobsters, so I'd rather have the wine, but wow! Did he put them in checked luggage or carry-on?

Andrea, yes, I should! And on my way back, I should stop by and visit, and you and your husband can help me drink it! 😂

Believe it or not, there are several states that prohibit the importation of spirits even for personal use. And some states have serious restrictions on the amounts one can import. Hard to believe that "bootlegging" is still a thing.
