What features are design fails for you? Here are my peeves.
1). TSA quart sized 311 bags that are too large, well beyond quart-sized. Yet, advertised as TSA compliant.
2). External Shoe compartments that completely encroach into the main area of bag. A dedicated external pocket is fine as long as it does not completely project into the main area.
3) “Photo-shopped” images in advertising that are misleading.
I HATE it when the weight of the bag is not stated. All those lightweight claims with no data to back them up.
Maybe the luggage companies are getting better, but several years ago when I was looking for a new carry on suitcase, the dimensions several stated weren’t the actual dimensions from the floor to the top of the suitcase. Some didn’t include the wheels, etc.
IF they have a complete set of photos showing all the external and internal features, it is only of the black version with the black interior so you really can't see the features. The lighter colors will only have a photo of the front and maybe the back.
When there is one photo of the bag by itself and then 10 more showing someone carrying it in their left hand, right hand, on their back, standing next to it on the ground, smiling, not smiling, female model, male model, . . .
On Amazon, you usually get better photos of the features from the reviews.
Great thread!
I agree with the others (especially on weight being listed AND correct overall dimensions) and....
Personal Item needs to be able to have a shoulder strap to carry cross body unless it's a day pack.
Prefer light color interiors.
Cross body purse interior pockets that don't accommodate a phone....ORI of London this is for you. I hate that the pocket that should be for the phone is too shallow and my phone falls out to the inside.
Magnet closures - not so bad now that the Paris Metro paper tickets are being phased out. Purse magnets used to demagnetize the individual tickets.
Khansen,
Yeah - I hate all the photos of models and “lifestyle” instead of just focusing on the bag in a clear, simple way. Osprey does well with short demo. videos. Patagonia is not bad in its presentations.
Tom Bihn will show non-model people (workers) in different heights and shapes to demonstrate realistic fit.
The cost……

I do like how Tom Bihn shows the various sized models (stating their height) side by side and holding or wearing the bag in different positions. That is helpful. Others come across as more "see how fashionable this looks".
Joe32F, Yes!
Even color (s).
Khansen,
Yes, models slinging large bags that probably contain styrofoam. I would love to see a fully packed out bag that is 22” long carried over-shoulder. (I would need wheels on a bag that large and heavy.)
The personal item must have a luggage pass thru. Shoulder strap attachments as well.
The main carry on weight must be as light as possible. Peferably under 6 lbs.
I prefer eight wheels over four. (That's four double wheels.)
white luggage.
cross body MUST have the ability to tether my phone into it, whether it's a key leash or interior loop.

Pam, I was using that “phone slot” as my TP stash during my trip to Italy - LOL! I didn’t even consider it as a phone spot since it was small. The front zipper pocket is where I placed my phone. I just rested my hand over it when walking through a crowd.
