BLACK FRIDAY 70% off reduced prices at Rume (tote bags)

**Edit : Some items end up at $3 or $1.50
$7.95 shipping.

Through October 21 -- 75% off packable nylon bags in cute patterns. I keep one in my purse for shopping/groceries , pretty sturdy. Also luggage organizers. I bought a tote with sleeve for roller bag handles. No, I have no connection to the company. Evidently it's going out of business ?

Thanks Laura and Kim.
I just ordered some for myself for travel and for Christmas gifts. A lot of choices at a good price.

Thanks for the tip Lauri. I bought a cFold too. My packable extra bag doesn’t have the luggage sleeve and is 30+ year old! Time to replace it. Too bad they are going out of business and the sale ends today.

Laura, thank you for letting us know. I love their Baggies. As soon as I read your post, I ordered a few Baggies and matching cFolds. After placing that order, I decided that my friends needed some also, along with tote sets, so I placed a second order. It's sad to see that Rume is a Covid victim, people staying home so they are not thinking about shopping bags and travel wants.

Fabulous tip! I was unable to contain myself.

I was expecting the discount to be taken off the original (full) price of each product, not the pre-clearance sale price shown for some patterns, but the things I bought all seemed to ring up at the lowest price shown before the 75% reduction was taken. End result: Some items were even less expensive than I expected. For folks interested in super-cheap stocking stuffers--or a tote bag to match every article of clothing in their closets--I offer this list of unexpected (by me) deals:

Baggie All: Some colors ring up at $7 or $8 rather than $12, so the ultimate price can be $2 or less.

C-fold: A few patterns ring up at below the standard price of $33.

Macro Tote: Some colors ring up at $7 or $9 rather than $13, so the ultimate price can be $2.25 or less.

Medium Tote: Many colors ring up at $7 or $8 rather than $12, so your price can be $2 or less.

Mini Tote: A lot of the colors ring up at $5 rather than $10, so you pay only $1.25.

The price of simply-constructed travel items made of inexpensive nylon has always bugged me. It's great to snag items like these at such incredible prices.

Thanks Laura! What a nice find. I was not familiar with this brand. I was able to snag a number of items for myself as well as for gifts. I love nylon bags. Glad to help them out!

Wow! Great sale on some cute bags. Thanks for posting about this. I had heard of this brand, but had never ordered before. I may keep everything I bought for myself, or may give some as gifts. I'll decide later!

Thanks Lauri, and Kim for the link.
I have several baggies and love them. When i saw this post i didn't realize Rume made the ones i have, so when i clicked on Kim’s link i was surprised and very happy! I bought quite a bit 😉

Is the sale extended??? I clicked on the link this AM, added a couple of items to my cart and stopped there because I’d purchased all I wanted yesterday on my 2 virtual shopping trips. Someone else could be brave today and click through with Check Out to see if they are still Open.

The items I ordered yesterday are already on their way to me—happy with my experience yesterday.

Mona, I checked and everything is marked "sold out" -- site won't let you add anything to your cart. I guess "final" really meant final.
RIP, RuMe.

Mona, my guess is they hadn’t updated the site yet at 6:30am this morning... you sure are an early riser, you and Andrea!
I wonder what they’ll do with everything they didn’t sell, can’t imagine they sold everything despite the Sold Out msg Lauri saw.

Thanks for checking although my 6:50 is their 8:50. Maybe they are near one of the fires in Colorado. I can imagine seeing more of their accessories in stores like Tuesday Morning and Home Goods in the coming months. Looking forward to my purchases coming on Saturday! Besides the power adaptor Andrea showed us at one of our meetings and some books, this is the only travel related purchase I’ve made since January.

I wonder what they’ll do with everything they didn’t sell,

Hmm, sounds like a TJ Maxx or Burlington stores kind of thing?

Or if there was a relatively small amount, it went to agencies that help the homeless, maybe?

Makes sense Mona and joe with what they’ll do with leftovers. I’m hoping they donate them to the homeless.

Thanks for the heads up on this sale. I have a tote-bag addiction, and love the ones I can stick in a pocket and use for grocery shopping when we travel. I'm glad I got in on the 21st.

My order arrived a few days ago and I am impressed. I used some to bring groceries home and they are well sewn and sturdy. I was worried they would be messy to store (other bags I use fold into a sewn in pocket) but the bags roll up nicely and stay secured with the velcro fastened band. I wish I had bought a few more!

Alas, I have not heard from RuMe since receiving my order confirmation 10 days ago. The charge did go through, so I'm holding out hope that they got blitzed with orders and are still working through them. I don't mind waiting to receive my purchases, but I'm going to be very disappointed if they never show up. I've emailed and left a voicemail message but have had no response to either attempted contact.

LAB, I received both of my orders. I used a Baggie on a trip and it worked great so of course I wanted more. But I thought they were a little expensive at full price. At 75% off I placed one order on 10/21 and an hour later decided to buy more. Now that I have seen the cFold, I'm really sorry I didn't buy more! I keep hoping that RuMe will open their website for a final to the final sale, but I don't think that's going to happen. I wonder how much stock they will have to give away or clos out elsewhere.

For anyone who has not received her order, Rume's customer service was helpful when I had a question.

I received my order a few days ago (a week after ordering) and am pleased with the designs and quality. The large luggage organizer will serve well as a drawer organizer until I travel again. I plan to gift some of the totes & zippered pouches. Thanks again to Laura B for the heads up! Very much appreciated.

My guess is you’ll get yours by Mon or Tues. They’re a reputable company so i wouldn’t worry.

Thanks, Susan and others. I feel better knowing that others have received orders fairly recently. I imagine things are pretty hectic for them, and they may have reduced staffing in the shipping department to try to save money. Perhaps things aren't exactly strict first-in/first-out at this point. I wouldn't really have thought much about the timing if the order confirmation hadn't said I would receive another email when the order was shipped, which still hasn't happened.

I'm glad to hear most people are happy with their RuMe purchases -- acraven, hope you have gotten a response.
I sent a note to my niece, who lives in Colorado, suggesting that she check thrift stores and places like Ross to see if the excess items ended up there.

I ordered items a couple of weeks ago and received them promptly. I, too, just got an email stating that it is their biggest clearance ever, back for a limited time. I hope they stay in business, as I am pleased with their products.

Be very careful ordering from their email today. It implies everything is 80% off. So I ordered another bunch of stuff. Not really looking at the total price since the 75% sale price was reflected after the pay screen, they charged me full price. I emailed RuMe immediately for a correction or cancelled/refund. If not forthcoming, Visa will be getting a call. I'm not a happy camper right now.
I tried to call them at the phone # on their confirmation email. It is "not allocated", so unless they respond to their email, there is no contact.

Posted by
28247 posts

Still no shipment. Still no shipping notification. Still no response to my email (sent a week ago). Still no response to my voicemail (also about a week ago).

The phone number on the order confirmation (303-799-4256) and a different number I found on the corporate website (866-921-0475) both now have recordings saying, "The number you have dialed is unallocated." A third phone number, which I found by Googling for the corporate office in Colorado, has a Minnesota area code and seems to be for a personal phone. Calls to that third number go to voicemail, and the greeting says nothing about RuMe.

The above is concerning, but I found this statement on the "Shipping & Returns" page of the MyRuMe website: Orders will leave our facility within 10-15 business days. Excludes International Shipping. So I guess I may just be unlucky and need to be patient. I wouldn't mind waiting if I just got something from them that indicated my order hasn't evaporated.

I'd order again, but there are no refunds on clearance purchases, and I don't need a double order.

acraven, I'm sorry you are still fighting to get your order. I gave them until tomorrow to correct my order from today or I will file a dispute with VISA. I also let them know that I posted the order problem on the RS forum, for what it's worth. Right now I'm really mad.

Sorry to hear about the challenges with orders. Hope it gets resolved. I too received an email this am. It states “Deals Up To 80% off.” “New Clearance!” “New markdowns Daily throughout November!” “All sales final.” “80% off applies to select products, all other products marked at 30-75% off original price.” I don’t plan on purchasing anymore products.

I think it’s way too soon to file a complaint with the BBB. acraven may still get her order.

Horsewoofie, when i ordered on 10/21 they showed the total price with discount before i gave my CC info and before i clicked Place Order.

Are you saying you clicked Place Order without knowing the amount you were agreeing to pay?

I finally got through my emails and found the one from MyRuMe for today . Wasn't expecting to hear from them again. Items aren't marked down to my price levels yet ... maybe if they really go out of business by the end of November.

The saga continues. I received an email from RuMe yesterday. The subject: "So, what do you think?" They are requesting a rating of my products. At the bottom of the email in small print it asks "Haven't received your products yet?" "Please reply to this email so we can help track your order down." [email protected]. As reported up thread I received my order. That said, has anyone used the email address that I provided? They also added their address. 6981 S. Quentin Street, Suite D Centennial CO 80112.

Yes, I tried that email address and have still had no response. I don't think anyone is going to get a response. If RuMe were willing to communicate with its customers at this point, it would not have had its telephones disconnected.

We may ultimately receive what we ordered, as others have. I'm hoping for that. Today is 12 business days after my order, so I'm still within RuMe's 10- to 15-business-day shipping window.

I didn’t notice if my order shipped via USPS, but if that’s how it’s sent it’s possible it’s taking longer because of election mail.

Posted by

Yes, but I haven't even received a shipping notice yet (which others have reported receiving), so I don't think we can attribute any of my delay up to now to the USPS (or UPS, etc.).

Posted by

Not getting a shipping notice doesn't seem right, but in case it gives anyone else hope, my order from Oct 21st didn't arrive until Nov. 6. It came USPS.

I will add that my order was also delivered by USPS. I keep receiving emails from the company. RuMe had 40% off this weekend.

For anyone having problems, last weekend's sale email included the following address and phone numbers:
Rume, Inc.
6981 S. Quentin Street | Suite D | Centennial, CO 80112
1-866-921-0475 | 303-799-4256
[email protected]
Be aware that their return policy has changed. Although I didn't copy it, I swear that last week it said they would adjust prices to the current sale price within a week of order. It now says no adjustments, no returns, no refunds. I feel I'll be luck if they even ship my order. I no longer recommend ordering anything from these people. I spend 40+ years in retail, sales and stock brokerage, all client focused. I have never seen customer service this bad.

Those two phone numbers are the same ones I've been trying unsuccessfully since November 4. All you get is a recorded message saying, "The number you have dialed is unallocated." I've had no response to the email inquiry I sent about 10 days ago to [email protected], either. I can only assume all the customer-support people are off the payroll. I just hope the shipping department is still working (albeit slowly and erratically).

Thanks acraven. I didn't realize the 303- # had been posted. I had only seen 800#s. Your patience is to be commended.

Since RuMe quickly charged my Visa, I'll just be happy to receive my order although I still think their email was very misleading. I ordered Christmas presents in that order that need to be shipped. I now just glad I had no problems with both of my 10/21 orders.

Closing the loop on my RuMe saga:

My shipment arrived yesterday, November 12. That was fast delivery, only 3 days from Colorado to Washington DC.

All of the items are made of a relatively lightweight fabric--I think nylon. It's not the thinnest possible. I have a set of three small RuMe zippered pouches from several years ago that are lighter (but they're so small they don't need to be sturdy).

I've weighed the items I received in case that information is helpful to others. (Dimensions are on the website.) I just used a postal scale, so I can't be more specific than this:

Mini tote weighs between 1 and 1.5 oz.
Medium tote weighs between 1.5 and 2 oz.
Large (macro) tote weighs between 2 and 2.5 oz. (seems barely over 2 oz.)
RuMe All weighs a smidgen over 2.5 oz.
Baggie All (tote-bag or purse organizer) weighs a bit under 1 oz.
The packing cubes (set of 3) weigh between 4.5 and 5 oz. (closer to 4.5, I think)

The cFold product is larger and more sturdily constructed than the totes, having a reinforced bottom. Its weight seems to be just under 7 oz., and it's rather bulky when folded up. I wouldn't want to carry it around with me every day, just on the off-chance I'd need a bag; for that purpose I'd choose one of the much lighter and less bulky totes. (Then again, I always have a rather commodious purse with me; others might have more use for the cFold on a daily basis, especially if traveling in a family group.) For those who can afford the weight in a suitcase, I believe this would be suitable as an overflow bag for shopping, etc., or a bus bag on travel days. This is similar to (but I think larger than) products I've seen for sale in stores at about $25 (which I've always considered ludicrous), so I was happy to find them at less than $9 while RuMe had its 75%-off deal.

What's odd is that I ordered the cFold in different colors, and I received two different sizes (per dimensions printed on their tags):

The larger ones (ruby chevy and navy) are 22.5" x 15" x 6.75" open and 8.5" x 7" x 1.5" closed. In terms of cubic capacity, these are about 13% larger than the smaller version.

The smaller ones (black and aspen) are 20" x 16" x 7" open and 9" x 8" x 1" closed.

Even the smaller CFold is 30% larger than the overflow bag I've been traveling with, which has generally been plenty large enough for my purposes. I'm not that much of a shopper, but I take very long trips and I do occasionally succumb to temptation and buy glass, ceramics, or books. These cFolds are so large they seem to be suitable as weekender bags, etc. When used more casually, I'm afraid contents could easily shift around a lot, which could be annoying if they weren't very full.

Belated thought: At 75% off (which I realize is not the current price), the mini totes and medium totes were inexpensive enough that I should have considered buying a bunch of extras to use as gift bags.

Posted by
9436 posts

I do not find the cFold to be bulky at all. It zips up flat and takes up no room at all. I like it much better than a tote because it has a panel that attaches it to a suitcase telescoping handle. I like buying things (usually clothes) to bring home and the cFold is perfect for that.

Posted by
28247 posts

Yes, I ended up sending in a second order; I belatedly realized the totes could function as gift bags for hard-to-wrap items. Unfortunately, most of the patterns are distinctly un-Christmasy.

As I posted earlier, they take the discount off the current (often very reduced) price, not off the original price. That means a lot of things are dirt cheap. But prices do sometimes vary by color/pattern, so make sure you pay attention to the price of the specific item you're ordering..

didn't a lot of people get frustrated when the when its gone its gone closing down sale happened a month ago?

disconnected phones, no emails?

Are they back in business with new stock now?

Posted by
28247 posts

Nigel, there was no response to customer-service inquiries by email, and the published phone numbers stopped working 8 or 9 days after the original one-day sale. RuMe also didn't dispatch orders on a first-in, first-out basis (which is why I got worried and tried to contact the company). However, I did receive my (bargain-priced) order, and it arrived within the maximum time specified on their website (15 business days, 3 weeks), if only just. Once the package was in the mail, it reached me within 3 days, which I though was more than reasonable for free shipping between Colorado and Washington DC. The issue was in their shipping department.

I didn't hesitate to order again, but I'm (normally) a very patient person where shopping is concerned. I will say that I'd be a bit nervous ordering items as Christmas gifts now if I were going to have to mail them to the recipients and cared about getting them there by the 25th. I'm expecting shipments to take longer in December.

Maybe if we wait a few days they'll start paying us to take their products?

I thought they ceased operations ( sales) as of Oct 21.

How many 'final' or 'going out of business' sales can a company have?

Posted by
28247 posts

I don't remember seeing "Going Out of Business" on the website. It's possible we just assumed that's what was going on because the discounts were so deep and we figured COVID-19 must have severely affected any company trading in travel goods. I still think it's likely RuMe is going out of business. Why else would you sell things at 3% or 4% of the original price? I'm surprised it's worth their while to run these intermittent bargain-basement sales, but perhaps liquidators only pay something like a penny on the dollar.

Posted by
28247 posts

Today (Monday, November 30), everything is 90% off. That means nearly all the tote bags are 50 cents, because they were previously marked down to $5.00. Color and pattern availability are increasingly limited, but if you are sort of sorry to have missed out on the earlier deals, this is your chance.

At NO TIME has RuMe said they were going out of business. At NO TIME has RuMe said they were selling inventory to a liquidator. Every mention of going out of business is based upon a forum post (various forums on the internet) since last summer. All based upon nothing but speculation written as “fact” or speculated as fact on forums. RuMe has been having blow out sales ALL throughout 2020 , sending out blowout sale emails (up to 80% off is not 80% off all their inventory). Now they are having a Cyber Monday 90% off sale. Are they going to eventually close ? Maybe. Is buying risky- no, even in a worse case you losing what, $20. Now would I order $250 in merchandise, probably not. Go for the great deals, but understand if they don’t arrive it was a risk you took. AND their Website is real clear- all sales final. Final means just that-final. No do over, no changing your mind; know exactly what you are buying and paying before you complete checkout. Cheap shopping, have fun, but your playing at your own risk.

Sorry when I bought from them the website indicated that this was it, they were closing their doors. It said something to effect of this was the final sale and goods would not be offered for sale after 10/21/2020.

I got that from THEIR advertising which I now find misleading so I won't bother to shop there again.

Posted by

If you take a look at the RuMe website now, you'll see that very little remains available except for the GTOs (garment bags) and mini-totes in four colors. The macro totes, medium totes and cFolds--though still pictured--are sold out, and the Baggie All is available in just one pattern. I think they've been trying different reduction schemes to maximize their close-out revenue. Personally, I don't have a problem with it.

Laura, I'm very glad you made your original post, because I've bought a lot of stuff at give-away prices to share with friends and family.

I wonder if they ran out of some items and abandoned those orders?

It sure has been confusing though.

Posted by

They were definitely not careful about doing the fulfillment in order of receipt. In the end I received everything I ordered. On one occasion a product I had in my shopping cart disappeared while I was making additional selections, so I think there's some hope they block further orders when they are out of stock. I'd say not to give up hope yet on the November 11 order; I think there's still a possibility you're experiencing a combination of slow/disorganized fulfillment by RuMe and a shipping delay.

I received my last order this week. I had noticed that some items would disappear from my order before I clicked the "buy" button -- I assumed that somebody else was looking at the same item and when they made the actual commitment to buy there wasn't sufficient remaining inventory for my request.

RuMe is no longer selling consumer goods. Its website diverts here: https://www.gemline.com/us/products/brands/rume.html. In addition to face masks, Gemline is selling some RuMe items (generally in different colors and patterns) emblazoned with corporate logos. Of no use to travelers unless they have a need for quantities of 100 and up.
