CDC Vaccination Card holders

So in preparation for my upcoming trip I headed to Office Depot yesterday certain they would have what I needed... NOPE!

Amazon has TONS of these things but the reviews are all over the place so.. before I just decide to laminate the thing I thought I would see if anyone has found a good plastic water resistant holder for their card since it looks like I am going to have to have it on me 24/7 in France.

Thanks! .

I would paper clip or small binder clip it to the inside of your passport (you can do 2 sides to be safe) and be done with it. The passport is stiff enough to protect it. Or stick it in your wallet in a back compartment. I've had my voter card there for years and it has never been damaged (granted I don't have to take it out all the time to show someone). I guess I just don't see the need to be obsessed with these plastic holders since you still have to put the card somewhere afterward, even with the plastic on it.

I got one of those plastic thingies from someone and it looks stupid and isn't really that great. I'm better off using a plastic badge from a conference.

Went to FedEx with my Moderna card and they told me they were laminating the copies, not the original…..had them make 2 copies for me, put one in my wallet and stored the original in a safe place at home along with the extra laminated copy. The copy looks sop much like the original that it is hard to tell the difference.

Thanks Frank for the link

I currently do have it with my passport but that's not really going to work for my trip this fall as I don't carry the passport everywhere. It stays in the safe. (Having once had a friend spend a day of her vacation getting a replacement it's not high on my "what I did in Europe" wish list and a copy has generally worked fine for me. )

I used a couple of the clear plastic sleeves I had for keeping 3" X 5" recipe cards spatter free while cooking. They're open on one end (which could be folded over and taped shut) but should do the trick.

Do you happen to have any type of pocket calendar (or maybe a small notebook) with a plastic sleeve? I have one from my Credit Union, and the interior sleeve would work fine for the vaccination card too. It does weigh a little bit, but not much. I have one of those Amazon thingies or something that looks like it, not crazy about it.

I bought the ones like Frank's from Amazon. They came in a pack of 3 with lanyards so you could hang it around your neck. May look kinda dorky but I won't lose it.

I also used the 4x3 plastic holders like Frank, do not laminate your card it may cause an issue when entering country's from what I read. Plus, if you get a booster shot (likely in the future) they will need to add that to your card.

Plus, if you get a booster shot (likely in the future) they will need to add that to your card.

That should not be a problem, they can just give you a new card. As far as I know, you can already get a replacement card if you lose yours based on online database information. But I still think if you're going to laminate you should laminate a copy, not the original.

NYState is issuing QR code texts. We entered all the info from our CDC card and a text with the QR code came back pretty quickly. Maybe other states are doing this also? I read that if you received your vaccine though Walmart or Sam’s club they also will issue a QR code. Also the states of California and Louisiana. Information is changing daily so you just have to look everyday.

QR codes are just codes, not universally readable or in the same data system, or even have information in the same language.

NY, California, Walmart etc "QR" codes are totally worthless for EU travel. They are not part of the EU system and cannot be read.

Yeah the QR codes people are getting from states and drugstores don’t really help in Europe

I’m not worried about future vaccinations on the card as my providers use computer generated labels which could be attached but I am just more worried about someone wanting to carefully examine the document

I’m also ordering an immunization record from my state which hopefully looks more official than the CDC card

I had mine laminated at Staples - for free.

I’m in France and border control only glanced at the CDC card, but did ask for it.

The QR code’s should be good for the airport. Going to check with the airline now. The code still has the information, if needed, and you don’t have your card on you.

I got a 5 pack of plastic holders at Amazon (that's the smallest option), works just fine. Just realize that it will now be harder to carry in a pocket because bigger and thicker.

Actually I’m not the least bit worried about the airline and the QR code and all that my problem is I’m going to France and it looks like I’m going to have to have this vaccination passport to go to dinner, to any attractions, to shops etc. So that’s why I think I need to put it in some protection. Sounds like we’re going ti be hauling it out about 10 times a day. 😁

This Delta variant may change things quickly, but we just returned from 3 weeks in France and never had to show our vaccination cards to anyone. Even the airport just wanted our American app where it was already uploaded. I carried it around everywhere, but no one seemed to care. People were not even wearing masks and everyone was out en masse enjoying the freedom !

Actually Amazon has packs of 3 either with or without lanyards.

I bought a pack of three plastic cases for our COVID vaccination cards on Amazon for less than $5.00.

Just arrived in Wengen. No one looked at my card but you register with the Swiss Health Department. United took a cursory look on the way out.

Just wanted to say thanks to Frank and Jane. I have my original CDC card in the card protector recommended by Frank and I just made some laminated copies as mentioned by Jane. I think my copies look better than the original!! Since we likely will have to show the card at a lot of places, I feel better now that I have some copies. Whether the copies will be accepted remains to be seen, but I figure a copy is better than nothing if the original gets lost.

My mom had her car in a plastic case and every time someone wanted to look at it, she needed to take it out. Which was a bit of a hassle. So if you do get a cover for it, make sure it’s something you can slide it in and out of easily.

I also got the same kind as Frank.

I always carry a pieces of paper with emergency information that includes phone numbers, medical conditions, my doctors' info, medications I take, and my latest abnormal lab results. I create them myself and update them when things change. I put them in a variety of places so that if something happens and I can't communicate, the data is likely to be found. They are 6"x3.5" and I fold them to fit wherever I put them.

An extra benefit of the cardholder I got is that I only have to fold the emergency info in half and it fits right in. Ever since I got the holder, I've had the CDC card showing on one side and my emergency info showing on the other. Each is easy to pull out.

Someone was thinking outside the box to repurpose the ubiquitous conference nametag holder as a vaccination card holder - LOL. These things used to be sold for pennies a piece! I dug through my office junk drawer and came up with one I had held onto from pre-covid times. Never would have thought of it until I saw this thread, though. :)

Here they are, 100 for $16. Search "nametag holder" and you'll get a slew of options.

I am actually going to an in-person conference next week. I will have to see if the nametag holder will work.

(Trip to Paris is still a coin toss on "do I go or do I stay" :) )

Carol - Unless they refuse to let us in, I'm 99% set on going first two weeks of December. I need a vacation!
