Carryon luggage -- backpacks??

Is it allowed, acceptable to use a backpack instead of a suitcase for one's overhead compartment luggage item??

This is for traveling to/from Italy via TAP Airlines.

Thank you, Parkaboy

My daughter and I used backpacks on TAP Air Portugal for our carry-on/overhead luggage. Just make sure it meets the approved dimensions. Seattle to Venice with a stopover in Lisbon.

I carry it on the plane to avoid accidently hitting seated passengers. And will wrap the hip belt the opposite way around the bag and cinch it down prior to putting it in the overhead compartment. Mine is a small hiking backpack.

As long as it is the correct size, the name makes no difference.

If it's the size of a personal item, they may ask you to put it under the seat in front of you. If it's the size of a small carry on, then yes, the overhead is where it goes.
