Bring back the old travel back pack

I really love the old back pack that you sold. But you redesigned it and made it much smaller. That is awful. Please bring back the one you sold a few years back. It was excellent and really ideal for traveling.

But you redesigned it and made it much smaller.

Not sure what you mean by "much smaller". The current "Classic Back Door Bag" and "Convertible Bag", at 21"x14"x9", are only 4½% smaller than US airline carry-on regulation size and only 5/8" shorter than maximum European airline carry-on size. If they made them much bigger, you'd have to check them.

I can only assume the bag was made smaller to accomadate the ever changing rules on cabin baggage across different airlines. For example you can take a bigger bag with Ryanair than easyjet, Wizzair is smaller again. Try packing less

I m not going to ding you for being in the wrong place just mention that there are plenty of larger backpacks for sale through places like REI and other sports stores. Many of them are very good for travel. But probably big enough that they must be checked.

Are you referring to the original "Back Door Bag" from ETBD that was sold in the late 1980's and early 1990's? (I have one.)

The design was completely different, the material was sturdier, I believe it was 22 x 14 x 9 and the tie down straps didn't have connecters--you literally tied them together. It was a great bag.

The one we ordered in March 2014 was a Convertible Carry-on Blue Spruce for $99.99 Item number BG-XTS.
Perhaps I'd have trouble using it as a carry on now, but I never packed it "chock full" so since it was flexible, I never had a problem with it. I've flown domestically in 2017 with it and had no problem. Love it because it is so durable and has so many nice pockets... and now I can't get the same thing. I'd order another in a heart beat.

I think it's the same bag. I don't remember hearing of any design changes since 2014. But if you want to be sure, call the Rick Steves office and ask.

What makes you think it's different?

I searched BG-XTS on this website and got 2 results: your post and the current listing for the Convertible Carry-On. I looked at the pictures and watched the video and it looks just like the ones I got in 2009 for my husband and I. I'm not seeing any difference.

So I'm also curious as to what you've found different.

Hi Lo, Thanks! I must have missed it before. I found it and ordered another. My problem is solved. Glad they are still making this one.
