Bagsmart Blast Access Backpack— has anyone used it?

Just out of curiosity, is anyone familiar with this backpack? I saw it on Facebook and it looks really interesting. I like that it’s a clamshell but also opens from the top. Plus it has a separate compartment for shoes. It can expand from a 28L to a 38L, in case you wanted to check it or use it as a carry-on instead of a personal bag. It looks very compact but can evidently hold a lot.

The only downside that I can see is that it weighs 2 pounds. But it still looks nice. I need another bag like I need a hole in the head, but I’m sitting here in my grandson’s hospital room, and since he’s fast asleep, I’ve got nothing to do but surf the web on my phone. And of course all my surfing is travel related. :-)

Wow, I wish I needed a new bag! It's just a little bigger than my beloved Appenzell, but more versatile. And the price is attractive, as well.

Jane, I know! I really like the look of it. You’re right, the price is not bad.

I do not need another bag, I do not need another bag! The yellow really caught my eye, though it's not the most practical color. I really like the Bagsmart products I have. I hope all is okay with your grandson, Mardee!

  1. Too Small for Carry-on. I would want to get a pack with at least 21.5" height and 14-15" width and about 8" depth, or approximately 40L to take full advantage of the maximum allowable carry-on limit. It is easy to compress smaller, but once you run out of room, that's it. Size matters.

  2. Too big for a daypack. I would not want to haul this relatively bulky bag around while sightseeing. I use a light sackpack which can hold a jacket, water bottle, snacks, power bank and purchases. When not in use, it folds down flat and compact to fit in my carry-on backpack.

  3. No Useable Expandibility. My carry-on bag can be unzipped to add another 4" of depth to expand from 40L to a back-breaking 60L. I've never had to do so, but it's nice to know that I can if I decide to buy a lot of stuff and wish to check in my bag. You have to be able to go big or go home.

  4. No hip belt. This is the most important missing feature. Having a hip belt to transfer the weight to your hips will save wear and tear on your neck, shoulders and back.

P.S. FWIW, my bag is an SOC Bugout Bag.

Funpig, I wouldn’t be using it for a carry-on or a day pack. It’s definitely too big for a day pack, in my opinion. For me, it would be used as a personal bag. And I do think it would work well for that purpose. But that’s me. Obviously your needs are different.
