Approved Contact Lens solution bottles for Europe

I wear contact lenses and always take a small (4oz) bottle of saline solution with me in my carry on bag incase my checked luggage is delayed. I've never had a problem in the US with this size saline bottle. Last fall we went to Cyprus. I went throught security in Frankfurt without a problem. However, in Athens the woman at the security check confiscated my saline bottle. She said the EU limit was 100ml, slightly more than 3 oz. My question - does anyone know of a brand of saline that comes in 3 oz or 100ml bottles that is available in the US? I've looked at Walmart, Walgreens, the grocery, etc and can't find any. We are going to Italy next Spring and I want to avoid the confiscated bottle problem.

Thanks,
Laura

I've always been able to find Bausch & Lomb solution in the travel section of Target and local pharmacies. I think it comes in 2 or 3 ounces. If you can't find it at local stores, please check out this website that sells travel-size products. http://www.minimus.biz/default.aspx

Dump some? Put some into a smaller bottle? Take two smaller bottles?

I use Clear Care as my cleaning product and it comes in 3 oz bottles at Walgreens and Walmart; I know that it will last 8 nights so will bring 2 since I don't want to try finding something similar in a foreign country.

Funny- I also recently realized the "travel" contact solution I use was too big and no one ever said anything. I switched to Baush and Laumb Renu solution like the previous poster mentioned. It comes in a 3 oz bottle which is enough to last me for week at least..
I recommend against putting contact solution in another bottle for travel. Eye infection waiting to happen.

Thanks everyone. I'll look for the Bosch & Lomb solution. I use Clear Care but like a saline to go with it for an extra rinse of my contacts before I put them in even though it's not needed. My husband had suggested transferring to a smaller bottle, but I had told him I couldn't because then the saline solution wouldn't be sterile anymore. I've had TSA agents check the Clear Care bottles for hazardous substances, but they have never confiscated the bottles.

I always have a hard time trying to find the right size, too. I think saline for contacts should actually qualify as a medical supply that you can have in your carry on in larger amounts. To do this from what I have read, you would have to keep it separate from your liquids bag and "declare it" as you go through security? Has anyone ever tried this? I've always decided to not risk it and just find a smaller bottle, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with this.

Hi Laura,

I just stopped by my optometrist and asked for one their free small sample bottles of contact lens solution. My doctor was happy to oblige by giving me two. The brand I like is Bausch & Lomb Biotrue and it comes in a 2oz clear bottle. It's a great eye moisturizer.

Ben

I always fly with my glasses on since my eyes get too dried out with contacts for long flights, and buy contact solution at the airport after I've gone through security.

I agree with Ben. Biotrue is a good solution that I use all of the time. You can buy it and Revitalens in 2 oz. bottles at Walmart. BTW, an airport TSA mgr. said that I can keep my solutions in a quart bag separate from my primary bag of liquids. Just be sure to place it in the bin separate when you go through the screening. More space for all of my other liquids! I will be going to Europe in Sept., so I will be trying this.
