Anyone buying anything from a Black Friday sale?

I'm trying to decide if I should buy now or wait and see what goes on sale after the holidays. I just saw that Lo & Sons is starting their BF sale but sadly, the Catalina Deluxe Day Tote is not included. I also bought 2 small travel trays from Tom Bihn for two of my sisters for Christmas gifts, but since Tom Bihn never goes on sale, there's no need to time it.

Of course I don't really NEED anything but that's never stopped me yet. :)

Well, after the thread a few months ago I've been eyeing a Longchamp Pliage tote. I checked them out at CDG on a layover as well as at the store in MIlan but they did not have the color I wanted. I signed up for email on the Longchamp website but nothing online so far (but it invited me to their stores and if I'm going to have to drive to Seattle over the pass and spend the night my savings will be gone, hahaha!!). Nordstrom has them on sale but again, not the one I want.

Pam, have you checked online at other places? Those are very nice bags. I meant to check them out at CDG when I was there but totally forgot. What color are you looking for?

Mardee,
Iā€™m not seeing any price deals online at this time. I start looking at prices in Sept. and Oct. to compare. Some prices have even increased!

Then, thereā€™s the game of letā€™s call it a ā€œsaleā€ when it isnā€™t. Or, charge less for the item and more for the shipping/handling - price redistribution.

I thought cyber-Monday would be better.
I still have my eyes šŸ‘€ on a vacuum cleaner.

Isn't Cyber Monday next Monday?

Mardee, I want the Le Pliage Green in the color Thunderstorm.

Sun-baked...I hope you are not wanting a vacuum for a gift. My ex-husband gave me an iron one Christmas. I had not asked for it (that would be different) and I thought...this person does not know me and has no clue. I should have realized the marriage was over, lol! Yet, she persisted. šŸ™„šŸ˜¬šŸ˜†

Pam, once you start, the Longchamps bags are addictive. Iā€™ve purchased them in the Munich airport on a layover as gifts for my husbands family in Croatia. I have various sizes in brown, cranberry, black, navy blue, cream, and grey. I bring one on every trip, depending on my color scheme.

Pam, that's a gorgeous color! I also like the Forest. Have you checked Saks? I just did a quick search and they have discounted the small tote bag in that color. They also have a 10% off coupon that pops up if you sign up for emails.

Sun-Baked, that's a good idea - I always forget about Cyber Monday!

Barbara, I gathered from the thread from a few months ago that they were addicting, lol!! I love the idea that they're so lightweight and fold up. I realize if I get one of the organizers for it that will be more weight and more space if I'm not using it but in theory I'll not really need for it to be packed when I am in transit.

Mardee! Well, holy cow, that's the bag (the 2nd link)! And 10% off for new email subscribers. Thank you so much! What a good bargain hunter you are!

I have to admit Saks is not on my list of places to look as they are not available here!

Thank you, thank you, thank you...now awaiting the email with the 10% off code and it's mine!

Pam,
I could not remember if today or next Monday was cyber-Monday. Thanks for the update. I like practical gifts. One year, I requested a wheel barrow. (Birthday or Anniversary). My spouse surprised me by hiding a large bright yellow one in the garage with a red bow. It was great! Took a lot of work on his part to get a friend with a truck and haul it to the house.

The vacuum cleaner is for my office and not a gift. I got ā€œburnedā€ one time buying one in October (dyson šŸ’°šŸ’°šŸ’°). Then, big Black Friday markdown at Loweā€™s. ... Learned my lesson.

Ha, I can totally see wrapping a yellow wheel barrow with a big red bow - how cool! Don't know if you are a Costco member, but they have a Dyson vacuum cleaner on sale for their Black Friday sales. https://www.costco.com/.product.4990603.html

I just now realized that vacuum has double uus in it. I have never thought about it before but it just popped into my head. I've thought about it with continuum, but those uus are pronounced differently. English really is a weird language.

Actually my grandmother used to say the "u's" vacuum like continuum!

Wheelbarrow sounds great and bright yellow can be noticed and not left in the yard!

Ditto, Sun-Baked! I hope you find your vacuum cleaner! And happy Thanksgiving to you all as well!!! Pam, I'm not a vegan but I love the sides more than the turkey - and sweet potatoes are my favorite!

I think I saw that the Le Pliage City collection has some crossbodies. Smaller, of course.

If anyoneā€™s been thinking about an Anker portable charger, the Anker 521 Magnetic Battery for the newer iphones just went on sale at amazon and there is also a $5 off coupon. I just ordered for $25.74.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08TW7BRTJ/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It looks like some other models are on sale too and some have additional coupons. Just be sure to check and see which models are compatible with your particular phone.

Thanks! I will check it out. I love their products and I love that light purple color! My current power bank is black and I'm always losing it.

Mardee thanks for starting this thread.
I enjoyed reading everyoneā€™s posts.

Pam, thatā€™s a nice looking bag, and I really like the color too!

My daughter got a navy one some years back when she was in college and used it as her ā€œbook bagā€

The Longchamp bag reminded me of this:
A few years ago, I happened to go into a Bricā€™s store (while in Sicily) and they were having a great sale. I ended up buying a small duffle bag that folds into a small square and fits into a flat matching bag. I like the strap on the back so I can easily attach it to my spinner.

Have you noticed how many businesses started ā€œBlack Friday Salesā€ earlier this year?

Iā€™m looking for some comfy shoes (booties) but havenā€™t had much luck.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! šŸ˜Š

Yep, I went for the Longchamp tote this morning, hahaha... Merry Christmas to me! Thank you Mardee for finding me that great deal!

Yes, I am, but not travel stuff! Plus we have a post-KonMari rule: Bring one new thing into the house, two old things must be retired and disposed of appropriately.

You're welcome, Pam - glad it worked out! And I have a confession - I went and bought the same bag. If we ever go traveling together, I promise not to bring it! You and everyone else who owns it just got me so excited about it! I did wait till you bought yours - I would have felt awful if I would have ordered it and shut you out of the last bag.šŸ˜Š

I don't know if this counts as buying something, but I got a cruise booking repriced. I saw online that the "sale" had reduced the price so gave them (Royal Caribbean) a call. I was expecting $150 CAD off, but somehow got $1270 CAD off. Score! Lost my big $50 USD onboard credit, lol. It's worth calling if you have a cruise booked. You never know.

This definitely cheered me up after Canada lost to Belgium.

Holy cow Andreaā€¦$1200+!!! Wowser. Doesnā€™t matter if the dollars are Canadian, US or Australianā€¦that is wonderful!

Mardee if we are together you can bring the same bag! Weā€™ll just wrap the handles differently. Skip to 15 minutes on the video for the handle wrap. (Didnā€™t know this was a thingā€¦)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Wh06ZqtK8w

Darcy and I wound up with the same iPad Mini coverā€¦Van Goghā€™s Almond Blossoms, who could resist!

Editing to change the link. Had inadvertently linked the carrot cashew rice recipe we had for dinner, lol! It was pretty good, lol.

Pam,
Using a scarf to decoratively wrap a handle is a lovely idea. I have used colored paracord in the past on handles and zippers. Easier to identify and contrast makes zippers easier to see and handle. The scarf is a great idea for handles - softer to grasp.

Andrea, what an awesome deal! It does pay to check on those things! That reminds me that I need to check on my car rental reservation for next year to see if prices have gone down.

Pam and Sun-Baked, that is a very neat idea! I love the idea of wrapping the handles to change the color! Pam, very funny about the recipe although it sounds delicious! :)

Congratulations Pam on your acquisition! And Mardee that is so funny that you ordered the same thing - and were so thoughtful as to wait !

And darnit for having removed the recipe link hahahahaha

Happy thanksgiving everyone !

Bought 2 different lightweight, foldable totes today recommended previously on the forum with a nudge from Sun-Baked. I may go for a third style before the morning is over. All are about the same size with 2 methods of carrying them and a trolly sleeve. They will be stocking stuffers for family members who are going to Europe this summer but not traveling directly with us.

Kim! That was so kind of Mardee, wasn't it?

Carrot Cashew Rice - Needs spices bumped up a bit. My brother cooked it and he is not a strong cook but it came out really good. Needs the spices bumped a bit. We served it with steamed broccoli and it was a really nice vegan meal for us. It will go into the rotation.

Mona, did you get the Osprey Remnants? They are such a good quality company, could not believe the totes were just $20.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Hmmm ā€¦ The osprey remnants are so tempting. I wish the duffle was smaller - itā€™s 42 liters. I may still get it as a dirty laundry bag, given the cheap price.

Mona, I have gifted the daylite tote packs to family. No feedback. But, looks like a great bag. I have a similar, older version Patagonia bag. The trolley sleeve is a big bonus.

Ebags, Mother Lode convertible backpack. I bought one for a Christmas Present for someone else. I have a few of these and they are the best! I also purchased through the Alaska Airlines shopping portal which gave me 500 bonus miles. :)

Mona, I decided to get that one, too - so I now have bought 3 Osprey bags (sigh). But they do make great gifts (if I can stand to give them away).

OK, so got the email this AM that Longchamp is having an online sale BUT WAIT!! The Le Pliage Green that I wanted is only reduced to $128 AND they raised the "original" price from $155 which is what it was on Wednesday to $160.

The price on the Saks site has dropped to $93 from $108.50 but still lists the correct original price as $155.

Oh well!

Pam,
Donā€™t feel bad. The vacuum cleaner I bought today went up by $10 since last month. Also, I donā€™t need anything and the few items that interested me are at the same price or have increased over the past few months. Inflationā€¦ bummer.šŸ˜Ø

Lol - completely different direction, but I bought the Entertainer app package for the UAE, which features discounts and two-for-one offers. It will be useful for a weekā€™s stay. On sale through tomorrow, I think.

Thank you for the heads-up about Osprey! I bought an Osprey Remnant packable backpack but also a couple of bags for my son who will go off to college next fall.

I'm looking for a carry-on bag (I will be checking a spinner bag) that's bigger than my LL Bean Carryall Tote. I have been casing the Internet for weeks, waiting for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, and was a little disappointed that 1) some vendors weren't putting the item I am considering on sale (I'm talking to you, Away); and 2) The discounts are not as deep as I had hoped. Ah well...

Mardee, I will have a week and a half there first of March. Then a week somewhere else TBD, then 2 weeks in Andalusia before the final flight home. I wanted to break up that long flight home - so it turned into my March trip. :)

SandraL,
Go to Amazon.com. Look up Vera Bradley weekender bags or zip-top totes or travel tote. Maybe you can find a nice, reasonably priced bag. You have to look at the colors. Some colors are more expensive than others. There are quite a few totes for travel. Baggalini has a good one. There are some cheap, underseat totes. Osprey has the daylite tote pack. The night arches green one is at reduced price of $45 at osprey.com.
