Almost travel...

We are going to our first outdoor sporting event which is allowing 25% spaced capacity. In reading through the rules I see that people who normally use a purse or small backpack will only be allowed a clear purse or pack. I just thought I’d throw this out there, does anyone have a recommendation for a smallish clear plastic, strapped container I could buy in order to carry a few things into a venue? I only read this rule for today’s event in an email sent to me last night so for today I will be leaving my purse at home and just putting 2-3 things in my pockets. In upcoming weeks and months it might be nice to have a clear small purse or pack.

I can't help but I'm curious...

Does it gave to be clear for covid control?

Nigel it has to be clear so someone standing 6’ away can see what’s inside and not have to physically go through it to check the contents. Yes, it’s a new Covid safety condition for entry.

These kinds of measures, checking bags at entry points used to be for contraband and weapons at venues, now they want to also know you aren’t carrying anything in that isn’t allowed and their employees stationed at the entrances don’t have to get too close or touch your things.

Other rules were no physical tickets, you scan yours from your phone to their device at the entrance, no concessions stands open—you order from your phone and your food and drinks will be delivered to your seats. They also require physical distancing (they’ve only enabled certain seats for purchase and masks have to be worn when not actively eating and drinking. Thankfully the restrooms will be open.

Clear bags have been required for years at certain locations for security reasons, not just Covid. (Including preventing theft.). I bet you can just do an online search and options will appear. Pillow cases come in clear vinyl pouches that are reusable. Toiletry bags are often see-through vinyl. There are even backpacks that are clear vinyl. Best wishes to you.

For years people working in some professions have had to use clear purses so it shouldn’t be too hard to find something. You might want to try Target. There’s a TJ Maxx in Davis that might be helpful. Let me know if you find something. I suspect I will need to find something for future events. Have fun at the game!

The clear bag requirement has been common for some sport events to speed up the security line process. Have fun at your event!!

Ohhhh this is looking promising, thanks for the links. If we like today’s game I’ll definitely be buying a clear, cross body bag. So far our only bag restriction we’d encountered in recent years was a very, very small or clear purse and I used my smallest purse and was waved through.

Sierra Trading Post has a "Amerileather Tang Bamboo Handbag" which has a removable inside clear handbag which can also access the purses's strap. They are almost sold out.
Good luck!

Our local dollar stores have clear TSA bags or embrace the ridiculous and see what dress up bag in the kiddies aisle would be clear enough for the purpose. Small but with a strap.

Amazon.com.
Brands: east sport and bags for less. Plus, many others.
Just type “clear stadium bag or tote”
Vera Bradley even has a clear backpack for about $45. The Amazon ones are a lot cheaper. Wal-mart most likely will have them as well.

Thanks Mona for sharing this. So far in my neck of the woods they are not requiring a clear purse or bag for the Mariners. In the past their were restrictions on size of bags before the Pandemic. That said, it's good to know that their are some viable options mentioned up thread. It appears the Baggallini Bryant bag recommended measures 5.5" W x 7" H x 1" D. I also wonder for those who have SCOTTeVEST's or facsimile would be another option in addition to a clear bag? Or no bag? Enjoy your first sporting event and many more to come!

Edit: FYI: Info can be accessed at T-Mobile Park Entry Rules. To Kim's point, yes the clear bag has been the rule in other Sporting arenas here, eg. University, NFL Football, etc.

I know the clear bags have been a requirement for years for sporting events at my home university — as evidenced by the number of options online (as someone pointed out earlier, even Vera Bradley has gotten in on the action).

Thanks for your suggestions. I bought 3 different types for about $30 and one is the Baggallini. One has a small clear inner bag, one has a wrist strap in addition to the crossbody strap. I’m so grateful for this creative, supportive forum.

For today I pulled a lightweight vest out of the closet to give me a couple of decent sized pockets. It’s supposed to be 80° at game time so even this light vest may be too much but we’re off to the game in a few minutes and the 3 bags will arrive on Monday.

Or a two gallon freezer bag. HAH

I have noticed food service staff in airports carrying clear purses
.. again I assume to get thru security easier.

On a related note yhe employee lockers in Walgreens have clear doors. I assume to eliminate theft?

Yep I saw a little bit of everything today at the game including ziplock bags but no $200 designer bags. Families with kids had bigger clear bags and backpacks. I’m pretty confident with my smaller choices that will be arriving soon. I have never been a backpack person but YMMV.

Hey Doric,
Yes - clear is used for theft reduction. It’s also used to prevent weapons or illegal substances, as mentioned above. Walgreen’s needs to be concerned over theft of narcotic medication, plus regular shoplifting stuff. This way - security doesn’t’ need a warrant to search people’s stuff. Also, security doesn’t need to physically contact people’s stuff. Just speeds up matters for security. Security can still access a locker or bag if there is anything suspicious.

Doric - add a paracord or twine strap to that 2 gallon clear bag for a budget option.

Sun, you always have the good bag related ideas,
paracord for the win!@@!! .

The other thing about Walgreens employees lockers is that they are located in the hall way to the public restrooms. While there are times for the employees that it would be the most convenient location, it allows snoopy customers like me to assist in the over sight. " what cha doing with all that Sudafed, Sonny?"
