Air France Luggage Restrictions at CDG

I am wondering if anyone has very recently (the past 4 or so months) flown on Air France via CDG and could tell me how much wiggle room the luggage bin check has, if any, and possibly any recommendations for good spinner-style carry-on luggage that meets Air France size requirements. It seems like they are very strict about weight, but fuzzier about size.

Specifically what prompted this post is that I have read some accounts of people successfully flying via Air France at CDG with the Travel Pro Maxlite 5 International spinner even though it slightly exceeds the dimensions AS LONG AS it met the weight requirement.

Travel Pro bag: H: 21.75 in. W: 15.75 in. D: 7.75 in.
Air France specs: H: 21.6 in. W: 13.8 in. D. 9.9 in.

I realize some people feel strongly about spinner vs. roller vs. backpack styles, but would prefer to not have that come into the responses here. I really just want a "boots on the ground" take specific to Air France at CDG if possible. Thank you!

Follow the rules. Using the excuse that you read some people were allowed is not going to get the gate agent to bend the rules. Especially if checked luggage is not included in your fare.

Half an inch is wiggle room. Two inches is not.

Travelled in October 2024 with the travelpro Maxlite 5 international. On our return flight in CDG, I was stopped by Air France gate agent just before security and they were checking luggage mostly for weight. It did fit in the luggage bin check, but it had to be flat and not extended at all.

Honestly, it really doesn’t matter what happened to me or anyone else on here if your luggage is over the size limit and the agent says no a defense of people on Rick Steves told me they got away with it won’t work

You just have to decide if you’re willing to roll the dice. I have gotten away with the oversized carryons. However, I was perfectly willing to check it. I knew it was oversized. My luggage works for Delta, which is who I fly most often living in Atlanta, but is not necessarily the right size for European carriers.

Thank you, all. I wasn't planning to use other people's experiences as an excuse if I get stopped.

I flew them SEA to Paris for a connecting Air France flight two days ago. My suitcase with handle is "international " size so meets the height requirement and just barely the width and depth. In SEA I checked myself in at a kiosk. At the gate there were sizer things and scales.
My flight was delayed for hours. I didn't see the agents looking at bags as we were in line to board. Most passengers seemed to have the smaller cases not easy to find in the US? As in, mine looked bigger than the person in front of me.
For the connection it was similar. And I was surprised as a young woman with a bulging expanded bag struggled and blocked everyone behind her but eventually got it in...
As said, there is just no knowing! If you plan a lot of international travel it's probably worth getting a case that is lightweight and the dimensions required.
