Advice with Luggage Sizes for Helvetic and other European Airlines

Help!
I have been reading the various posts on the post regarding the acceptable sizes for carry on luggage on European airlines.
Everything I have read is that the European airlines are getting very strict.
I understand the weight limits.
My wife and I are flying on Helvetic Airlines and are concerned about the acceptable sizes of carry on luggage. I sent them an E Mail and hopefully will get a answer.
There is conflicting information on the Helvetic Airline site.

They will accept a 55cm x 40cm x 23cm on some flights or a 55cm x 40cm x 20cm on other flights. I think it is depending on what plane is used.
Then I read a specification that the combined measurements should not exceed 45" or 114cm.
My wifes favorite carry on is an old RS soft sided bag that is 42.5cm x 40.6cm x 28cm. The combined measurement are 111.1cm.
My carry on is a small AWAY spinner that is 55.7cm x 36.6cm x 22.9cm. The combined measurements are 115.2cm.
Based on everything that I have read, we have to go shopping.

Yes, it's troublesome for passengers. Helvetic sometimes deploys small aircrafts and may force people to gate check rollers.
