6 weeks-did the best to keep weight down on packing

This is for the over packers amongst us. So many of you have packing down to some science I have yet to figure out. However, I’m pleased that my suitcase is at 25.2 lbs and my personal item is at 11.0 lbs. Our 9 week trip last year saw the suitcase at about 35 lbs-so I feel I’m making progress and it was too heavy!

We leave Monday. I’ve packed already making some adjustments for weather-had to take out cooler weather and add warmer weather clothing. Now hoping the changes will work as I dislike shopping. If it’s a necessity-will figure it out.

For all of you who have assisted me with lists and ideas-ever so thankful. I’m going to try to make notes on what I wear and how many times (personally, I’ll probably fail this task) so I can be even more efficient next spring.

Happy travels!

Hi, have a great trip!

An easy way to remember what you wore is to just take a photo each morning and/or evening before you leave your hotel room.

Thank you Jean. I might fail photo taking too!

LOL! I thought this was going to be about what the scales said when you got home!

Laurel, I did, too! I've failed at getting the weight down before the trip; here's to hoping the trip will bring it down when I finally get walking!

OMG and LOL! Thank you all for giving me the giggles.

And in the too much information segment, I haven’t kept the weight down either prior to or during any recent trip. And this one will be pastries, chocolate and glacé. No chance.

I think i am getting a wee bit obsessive on weight. Got my suitcase down to 15 and backpack down to 10.

Going so far as weighing just about everything going in and picking the lightest. Last night I couldn’t sleep and mentally repacked at 2am, 3am etc. Kept thinking about having to carry suitcase up the ramp to the plane. That definately gives inspiration to lighten up.

Unfortunately, my current suitcase which I love weighs 8.6 lbs empty! I’m sure I have one dress too many and one long sleeved top too many, but other than those, I think I’ll be happy having it all. I did weigh similar items and packed the lighter. Not quite light enough. I can handle the 25 lbs on and off trains and can carry it up a couple of flights of stairs if need be-don’t think we have more than one floor up for accommodations this time around. I will make it work!
And will try to take notes of what worked and what didn’t!!

I made a spreadsheet to organize my packing. It may seem like I packed a lot, but my backpack came in at 21 pounds, and I have since eliminated some things from the spreadsheet.

Cerastez- thank you. Nice list. Received similar from Pam in Idaho. I’m capable of doing databases, but not spreadsheets. I will keep yours too and may try to build my talent base when I return from this trip. I did make up a good list so have it for reference and revision.
Leaving tomorrow, so my bag is packed. I’m taking whatever is in there!
